So, i have finally narrowed down my search to two possiblilites:

One is a 2.5 carat round stone with a ~1 carat halo setting.

The other is about 2.6-2.7 carat round, with just stones on the side of the band (no halo).

Any advise? I am totally torn... thanks so much!

We really need to see photos...That said, what size finger are you? Because to me, a 2.5ct. center stone is no longer the star when you halo it, and it''s overkill on a smaller finger, IMO. Depending on what sides you select, it can still look like it''s standing on it''s own. But that''s a personal decision that only you can decide. We can tell you which we like better but we''d need photos...

I love the simple, classic look of the solitaire. Never out of fashion, never OTT, never inappropriate.
Perfect for an engagement ring, which is to be worn everywhere, on all occasions.

But thank goodness we all like different things, otherwise the world would be very boring!

Definitely without the halo....they seem to be used to make small diamonds bigger. Too blingy for me. Go with something classic that you won''t get bored of. Just my 2 cents.

HI:

Very different looks IMHO. I would need to try on both styles on--with the same size center stones you are envisioning. Personally, I would not gamgl;e or guess which might look better with out seeing a few IRL.

hey there, I had a 2carat RB solitare but loved the halo look. I was also torn between the two different styles bc I was told that the halo would possibly take away from the center stone. I managed to find the PERFECT setting for my taste-a very very delicate cushion halo that also in my opinion enhanced my center stone. what do u think? There''s a few others on PS with the same setting and u can do a search for it-Tacori 2620...

Oh I forgot to mention... Btwn the two I''d rather go with the 2.6-2.7 carat. I personally think a 1 carat halo would overwhelm and take away from your stone...

I love the look of a very dainty halo on a large center stone, like the pic above. True that solitaires are classic, and you can stack with a variety of bands as a way of customizing how much "bling" you want at a given time. But I disagree that halos take away from a large center stone - it just depends on how you execute it.

Agreed.

If you have already tried them on and don''t have a clear preference, flip a coin or ask you honey which he prefers.

Thanks for the replies.
I have kind of big fingers (size 6).

I think the halo pictured above is definitely along the lines of what i was picturing for the halo alternative.... I think my boyfriend prefers the solitaire style (if he had to choose) b/c it''s a little more subtle, but he says it''s up to me. I really think the halos are beautiful, and I live in NYC so ppl wear pretty big rings here, but i''m just worried it might look too blingy with a 2.5 center stone...

hey questions, im in nyc too

i just purchased a 2.43ct from HW for my fiance (shes a 4 1/2, and it covers perfectly, so i dont think 2.5 on a 6 would look to blingy... the only thing i would say tho is if you have the option, have the center stone lowered.. ive noticed many places having the center stones raised a bit too high which looks tacky imo

Size 6 is a little less than the average size stores carry in stock. And the diamond you''ve chosen is quite a bit larger than average. But only you can decide what you like best and what looks best on you. My opinion is that a stone of nearly 3 carats should stand on it''s own. My RHR has a 0.75 carat cushion canary diamond set low in a halo of 1-pointer round white diamonds. My ring size is 5 1/2 and with the halo the circumference is 8mm and covers around 2/3 of my finger. I like to see a ring that doesn''t completely cover or even hang over the sides of a finger. To me, when it''s that big it can look like a blob or like a doorknob is sitting on your hand. But that is MY taste -- you need to figure out what YOU want. Asking an opinion on style is going to get you nowhere because everyone has a different idea. If you really want the halo style but are worried it will look too "blingy" then you could go with a smaller center stone.
