Help with a ring:

We’ve finally started to look serious and make decisions. I’m a researcher and want to make the best of our budget and looking for help. Since you guys are the experts and full of fantastic advice, I’ve come to you.

Here’s the deal…

Located in Canada (and not sure of all the charges to import from US)

Budget: $5600-6100 USD

Stone:
- would like around 1.2
- likely SI1 or SI2 and GHI or J with a great cut
- Round Brilliant
Setting:
- simple, thin (width wise), flat (not to wide depth wise) dainty band that presents the diamond nicely. I like the way the vatche royal crown presents the diamond.
- something a little different than the same solitaire setting that everyone has
- size 6.5
- white gold
Other:
- really nervous about ordering something online and hating the ring in person.
Thanks in advance for your tips and help.

Does your budget include the setting too? I think the tax is very pricy. If just getting the stone, you have the import tax. If getting the stone AND the ring, there is an additional luxury tax. But I''ve no idea what the percentages are. Sorry. I know there are Canadians on this board who will know the exact percentages and hope they''ll chime in.

Two options to start thinking about. WF has lots of rings to keep you under.

I can''t help you with the Canada shipping stuff, but here are some ideas on stones and settings:

Legato sleek setting in WG $795: http://whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/-Legato--Sleek-Line_1118.htm#
It''s thin and has a beautiful crown.

comfort fit surprise setting in WG for $795: http://whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Solitaire/Comfort-Fit--Surprise--Diamond-Ring_765.htm#

Lower end of budget for a 1.1 J/SI2 stone (ask if it''s eye-clean, it may not be): http://whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-36712.htm#

Upper end of the budget for a 1.25 J/VS2 stone: http://whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-183726.htm#

Upper end of budget for a 1.13 "A Cut Above" J/SI: http://whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-150440.htm#

Budget includes setting and diamond and we''re looking for an eyeclean SI1 or 2.

If you have any suggestions on the diamond criteria I''ve outlined, let me know.

I don't know what this is.

It shouldn't be a suggestion. And, it's not terribly well educated, clinically. But, my uneducated preference could be to hold out for H or better. You might prefer the 1.2. I have a very personal preference for the number 108, which may further push my preference, but, for example, this one is one I might consider, too.

Otherwise, per my 2 suggestions above, your preferences are swell, and readily meetable, so far as I can see.

How about an ACA?

1.248 J SI1 - should be $5566 after the 5% bank wire/PS discount on ACAs.

My favorite setting at WF is the Legato Sleek Line, which is $695 in WG:
Legato Sleek Line

Put it all together and you''re just over budget, but there''s no way you''ll hate this ring in person!

I love the Legato Sleek Line setting too!

There''s also this - 1.236 ct I SI1.
