Hello All,

I wanted to start by thanking everyone for supporting such a great forum. I have been researching a diamond purchase for an engagement ring for the past six months and have used this forum/website to guide me through every step. I believe I finally found the right diamond and was hoping for some final comments.

The specifications I have selected are shown below. I have chosen the specifications based on my girlfriends requests (>1.00 carat, maximum sparkle)

1.01 Carat - not the best value, but I am fine with that.
F Color - my girlfriend was very sensitive to color at a store so my mininum was G. F just happened to be only $200 more.
Eye clean SI1 Clarity - If she can't see inclusions without magnification, it doesn't matter.
Excellent Cut - Chosen to maximixe overall "sparkle"
No fluorescence - Nothing wrong with fluorescence, just prefer a whiter look in all conditions.
Medium-slightly thick girdle - Stronger is better since she is very active.
<2.0 HCA Score - This diamond scored 1.1 E,E,E,VG with the GIA and 1.2 E,E,VG,VG with the Sarin report.

Price is $7230, well under budget which is nice.

Please let me know what you think! TIA.

Any comments on the diamond selection would be much appreciated.

Looks great. She will be very happy.

As to interpretation of IS and Sarin, it has a very slightly low crown and very slightly skinny arrows, so it will tend toward brightness rather than fire.

Wow. Thanks for the quick reply Julie. It's exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Nice ASET and nice size stone! "Additional clouds not shown" - did you as for a GG assessment of this diamond to be sure it is eye clean at whatever distance YOU require eye clean to be? Usually its at 12" face up , but you could ask about what they see from the sides.

Nice choice - but why not ask a JA GG to assess for eye clean, while they have it onsite.

Thank you Enerchi for the great advice.

I was worried about the same thing so I did ask JA to check. The gemologist mentioned that it "faces perfectly eye clean". I asked if anything could be seen at a distance of 6" (in any direction) or greater for a person with 20/20 vision when the stone was mounted. I further asked if anything inclusions could be seen if we had the lab report and knew where to look. The gemologist said no to both, so I assume it will be ok.

The order is and now I'm waiting for CAD portion of the custom ring process. Looking foward to the drawing!

Thanks again.

Hi Rojhero - a bit off topic, but did you obtain the Sarin report from James Allen? When I purchased a RB from them a few weeks back, I was told by the CSR that Sarin reports are only available for fancy cuts..

BTW your IS image looks quite nice, showing just minor unevenness in the length of the lower girdle facets. :)

Very exciting! You picked your diamond

Any links to the setting style you are having designed?

That's strange, I received one from James Allen as well. I'd confirm this with your representative.

Thank you for the information.

Optix, Christina - Yes, JA provided a Sarin report. They did ask why I wanted one and I told them mainly to compare the measurements to the GIA report and look at the girdle.

Enerchi - I received some CAD drawings today, but they weren't quite what I was looking for so I'm hoping to have them re-done. Once I get the updated CADs I'll have to make another post. The setting is loosely based on the following link:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/ring/item_412-4120.asp

Except:
- smaller channel set side stones
- comfort fit
- Pt950/Ru
- no holes in the band

I've seen some incredible complex designs on this site, but I'm my girlfriend prefers a simple and unique look so that is what I've gone for.

LOVE your setting - and with the modifications you are looking at, that will be very nice! Good idea about the comfort fit (the 'rounded' interior of the ring). I have a 95/5 plat/Ru ring and even tho its only amonth and a half old, it still looks brand new and minimal wear on the under part of the ring. Good choice!
