I''m not anti custom at all but for me it would be my last resort after being 100% sure I couldn''t find the setting i want already being made by a designer. Custom can be great and it can be a a big headache with the final results unknown. I much prefer to be able to see the exact ring i''m getting complete, even able to try one on. I just don''t like surprises and I was extrememly anxious when doing my custom project. Again, this is just MY opinion. Pave is very popular right now. if she''s wanting a more simple pave setting to really showcase the diamond I''d suggest looking at Ritani. They have excellent workmanship and quality for a great price on a designer ring. You can see their designs on WWW.Ritani.com and www.Pearlmansjewelers.com who is a Pricescope vendor. the pictures on both sites do not do the rings justice.

I would think hard about the whole "bird in the hand" thing when trying to have someone make a near copy. Have you seen any custom work done by the jeweler who said they could do it for $2200? In my experience, jewelers have different styles, methods, and thus end results in their custom work. If you love the one you have seen, you might be dissapointed in a replica made by someone else.

I''m not saying don''t have one made, but make sure to do some legwork about who and what and be very specific about what you will be getting before jumping just to save some $$.

I truly believe you get what you pay for. So, how could someone make a $9,000 ring for $2,200?? Not likely they could even come close. Just my humble opinion...........

the 9K is with the center stone, the 2K would be without.

Oh.........As Gilda Radner (if you have to ask you're too young) would say........Never Mind

ETA: I still think the Daussi is a beautiful ring

yes, I guess I''m too young :-)

Well good for you!!!!! And gosh, doesn''t that help make me feel old........LOL

Hi! I am so happy to see people finally writing about the Daussi cushion diamond, that I had to chime in! I saw one about a year and a half ago -when I first started looking at engagement rings and tried to do some research and I could hardly find the website!! I was scared to even consider it really bc i could only even find one post on this site about it --and that person got ZERO responses at that time!

Anyway, the diamond in my (well, now it''s "my") ring drew my eye to it immediately as I walked in the door of the first store I looked. I tried on so many rings, looked at LOTS more than that, and did so much research on diamonds I thought I could be a professional (bc I''d never even really looked at one before) before I made a decision, but that very first one is the one I went back to. Mine is more simple, just the stone, a little more square, with just a few small diamonds down the side of the platinum band, but I absolutely love it! I wouldn''t change a thing (it looks better out of the store than it did in the store) - and wouldn''t want to spend my energy dealing with having something made that may not turn out like I envision -which happened to a good friend of mine!!

When I first THOUGHT about looking, I was torn btw an old/antique cushion cut bc I love the look of those and an emerald cut. But, as I discovered, this style is the best of both worlds, because it has the clean, symmetrical look of the emerald, but the additional steps give it the sparkle and fire of a cushion. Besides, to get a cushion cut comparable to the stone in the ring you are looking at, with the actual noticeable "cushion" look, it seemed they need to be at we would have to spend a small FORTUNE, especially if you want better color/clarity/carat size.. Mine is a D color with I3 clarity (I know, everyone gasp! this happens to be the other reason I was hesitant to choose this ring), but bc of the way the ONE inclusion (which I have seen with a loupe) is situated into one "corner" of the diamond, I honestly can''t find it --it''s looks perfectly eye clean. My fiance, my jeweler and I are the only ones who know it''s there and I will never sell the diamond so I don''t care. It''s perfect to me and for me and that''s the most important thing..

I agree with what everyone else says about numbers not being as important with cushions bc you have to see it to get the real feel for it. The same store was trying to sell me another Daussi cushion cut that was much bigger, lower color, but better clarity grade (they thought I''d go for it bc I''m a girl, I think), but it was a more shallow cut, only by a few percentage points, but the look was completely different, I didn''t even like it.

So, long drawn out email later, I think if your girlfriend loves this ring, it doesn''t matter that it may not be a cut (or designer) that everyone knows about, but, honestly, if it''s not round, in my experience, most people don''t know what it is anyway --except beautifully sparkly and different! I''ve heard beautiful and different and unique more times than I can count (hopefully that''s a good thing --unless it''s like a bad haircut that people don''t really like!) and I''ve only been engaged since Memorial Day.

Congratulations and good luck with everything!!
