Hey all,

Much thanks to all of the information available and to the many people that contribute to this forum. Truly made me a little less anxious throughout this entire process. So, here's the scoop:

It's AGA-Cert

Round Cut
Measurements: 6.26 x 6.22 x 3.90 mm
Carat: 0.95 ct
Color: E (Got a really good price, otherwise would have been happy with a G)
Clarity: VS2
Cut: 1B (Ideal)

Depth: 62.5%
Table: 59.6%
Crown Angle: 33.8
Crown Height: 13.3%
Pavilion Angle: 45.5
Pavilion Depth: 43%
Girdle: Slightly thin to slightly thick
Small cutlet
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Fluorescence: None

Cert: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/43/20120214161302.jpg

Wonderfully placed in a Tacori 2620 setting. At first I was hesitant because it was not GIA certified, and I honestly hadn't heard of AGA around the forums. But then I saw it in person and it is truly wonderful. Also, it was set in-house that day, no need to send it out.

Setting= $3130 (non-negotiable)
DIamond=$3470
-------------------
Total= $6500

Thoughts? Going to ask her Friday morning...all I need is for the weather to cooperate! Pictures to follow...

Thanks, I noticed that as well. What exactly does that mean?

That's Dave Atlas' lab - reputable, conforms to GIA/AGS standards. You can do a PS search for Dave Atlas/Oldminer/AGA if you want to read more ::)

Good luck Friday morning!! The ring is gorgeous - looking forward to some handshots soon ::)

ETA formerly Dave Atlas' lab - just saw he sold in 2008.

Re: About to pop the question, please rate my diamond/settin

Can you double check those numbers? Because the crown and pavilion percentages suggest that the girdle is too thick, not too thin. I don't know diamond geometry but from HCA I infer that the numbers you've provided must be wrong in some way.

I think perhaps you reversed the table and depth?

A typo on the cert? I put in the % and I get a HCA of 1.1 (assuming I'm doing it correctly)! Thanks, I'll definitely be putting handshots up!

I'm baffled - what is that 45.5deg on the report? Am I reading it correctly - is it 45.5?
My only guess is lower girdle angle... but for those facets to be so steeply angled the mains must be extraordinarily thick - or the stone must have a giant culet, which the report states it does not...
Can you post a face-up photo of the stone showing the faceting? Or maybe one of the experts will come in and clarify.

Attaching the image - PS doesn't allow links to webhosting services and that pic will be pulled soon -

Certificate Number 21023010004

Slightly thin - slightly thick faceted girdle
Small culet

You're reading it correctly. Thank you for your input. I'll pull the pics down...trying to get you another shot of the ring before she gets home.

-Sorry for the lame picture, but I'm using the only camera I currently own - my cell phone.

Re: About to pop the question, please rate my diamond/settin

Sounds like there is a mistake on the cert because I have never seen 45.5 as a pavilion angle before! And the price is way off, too. Was the diamond second hand?

Regardless of that confusion, I love that Tacori setting and I think she will be thrilled! :appl:

Re: About to pop the question, please rate my diamond/settin

it's absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure she'll love it - congrats in advance!

Love the setting!!

It looks gorgeous!

Re: About to pop the question, please rate my diamond/settin

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I attached the pdf cert (didn't know I could do pdf, thanks!).
The diamond is not second hand. In fact, I purchased the combo from a very reputable B&M store in Center City (Philadelphia). I was looking online for diamonds half the size, but was having a hard time because they weren't physically in front of me. I told them my budget (something I was hesitant to do) and they hooked me up.

I can't sleep at night because I'm thinking about this ring!

Re: About to pop the question, please rate my diamond/settin

Preface by saying I'm a colored stone gal, so don't shoot me if I calc'd it wrong, but shouldn't the total depth be 56.3% (43.0 and 13.3), not 62.5%? Good luck, pretty ring!

Re: About to pop the question, please rate my diamond/settin

It is a beautiful ring.

Good luck!

Re: About to pop the question, please rate my diamond/settin

As promised! I'll post more later. Thanks again everyone!
