Here is the original article I circulated. Any further thoughts from people I haven''t heard from?

_______________________________________
Here it goes ladies and gentleman:
Found a ring in NYC and need help.

1- Store is Fortunoff. Anybody have any thoughts about this Vendor? Salesman was really helpful (made a big deal about being careful of the halogen lighting and showed us the ring under an OttLite) but he was only able to show us a copy of the GIA cert. Should I be leary that they did not have the original to show us?

2- Here are the specs: Please, please give us your thoughts on this.
1.51ct Cushion 7.78x7.12x3.68
51.7% Depth 59% Table
Med - Slight Thick, Faceted - Girdle
Culet - None Polish & Symettry - Good
F SI1
Flour - None Addl facets not shown.

Should I be concerned with any of these specs? From the little information learned through PriceScope I think that I can tell that it is not an ideal cut diamond, correct? Too shallow? What else should concern us?

The ring looked "eye clean" to me. I did find inclusions after I louped it. But I don''t think that there was anything visible to the naked eye. But what do I know. My girlfriend liked the ring and she seemed very happy wearing it.

3- Setting- Micro Pave, Platinum with .26ct (29 diamonds) H-I, SI2.

What would be a fair price (ballpark) for all of this?
Would 15-20% on top of cost be fair profit on this?

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO LOOK AT THIS. NOVICES LIKE US APPRECIATE IT!!!

I can''t help with most of your questions; cushions are fancy and as such, there is no easy reference for me on what they should cost, etc.

One thing I DID want to say: it''s not necessarily unusual for a vendor to have only a copy of the certificate because he likely doesn''t own the stone. Rather, he may have it in "on memo" from a supplier. However, I would NEVER take delivery of the stone without the original certificate. If you buy the stone, make sure he gets the original certificate in before you pay for/leave with the stone.

Someone here recently lamented that s/he was still waiting for the original certificate five months after the purchase, and that''s just not a good situation.

Thanks for the feedback and advice. Still looking for any other thoughts from people out there.

Thanks.

The store is firm at 13.5K on price. Is this a good deal?

FYI, on the pricescope home page they have a link to fancy cuts suggested ratios. They do not have cushion but they have oval. For ovals, 51.7 depth would put it in the "average cut" range.

Overall it sounds like a nice ring, esp as it is in platinum. It is up to you whether to get it, since you would know better your girlfriend whether she likes it and would be happy with it (especially with the love that it is given), or she/you would end up being dissatisfied because it was not best cut you can buy.
