Here''s what I''ve found.....I think it''s a good one

.71 carats
F-VS2
EGL Cert
5.92-5.89x3.48mm

Depth: 58.9%
Table: 59%
Crown: 11.7%
Pavil: 44.5%
Thin to Med Girdle
No Cullet
Faint Fluor
Good polish, good symmetry

The HCA tool gave it a 1.9....BIC
Excellent Light return, Very Good Fire, Scintillation Good, excellent spread

Asking $3000.000

Seems like a fair price especially from a local, smal B&M

This seems like a very good diamond. It''s beautiful. Should I or shouldn''t I? I''m thinking should, but would like some input here. Should I be worried about the faint fluorescence?

Thank You!

Folks will hesitate to reply to you because the matter is a complex one.

1. The cert is EGL and we can't really know the degree of accuracy to GIA standards. The diamond may be F color GIA may vary a little. If the diamond were G color GIA, would you be upset, concerned or not care at all? People are different in this regard. Lab standards are not identical. Just because they are big labs or well known, does not mean they use the same standards as GIA. They do use the same letters of the alphabet which may confuse you a little.

2. The price for the stone, while very much in line for a B&M store, is higher than the prices on Pricescope for Internet sales. That is expected, but most people here are sold on the Internet as the way to buy. Really, you have to make that choice. I buy lots of things in stores. There are some very good reasons to obtain full service on some purchases. You as the consumer are the one to decide where and when.

3. Slight fluorescence should be a non-issue with appearance and value. It does effect what people choose to purchase, but not much else. Have the store show you hoiw little there is under a black light (UV). Be sure it is LONG WAVE, not short wave. If you see the stone glowing brightly white/blue or glowing a yellow color, then pass and select another. A little blue/white fluorescence will not mean anything material.

Faint flour won't be a problem at all. The diamond is decently priced for a local B&M. Here's a comparable GIA Certed diamond with VG symmetry being offered by Mondera:
http://www.mondera.com/diamonds/product.asp?partno=493927&sourceID=BPVd0yuZ5sA-G_lJ.1gi6TNyfgkyJCaxOA for right at $3200.

The big question with the diamond you posted is the EGL Cert. The consistency of EGL has improved, but there is still a question associated with EGL Certed diamonds. The color and/or clarity could vary by a grade, sometimes 2. Color would impact pricing somewhat, but clarity will have a bigger impact on pricing.

You can do better on quality of make for the same or less money. Here are some alternate choices for your consideration:

http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=GIA-13013692 0.7, F, SI1 Price Scope priced at $2340

http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamond_detail.cfm?did=6872711&ref=PS622 0.71, H, VS2, $2446

http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamond_detail.cfm?did=6880268&ref=PS622 0.70, H, VS1, $2630

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for your input. If the difference in color is a soft F or a hard G, that wouldn't be too big of a deal to me. Personally, I am looking for a hard H or better, since I am going to set it in white gold. Also, I don't really want to buy over the internet if I can find a good deal from a local, independent jeweler.

According to the AGA charts, it's almost a solid 2B cut

According to the price charts, it's Average price $3887/carat (x .71cts to find price) for this cut of stone:
http://www.pricescope.com/RepRange.asp?shp=8&rng=5

That would make the average price to be about $2759.77, and the lowest prices being $2982/carat, making this about at lowest $2117.22 for a 2B cut.

Here's a .72ct, F, VS2 EGL for $2,109: Link

And an ideal .72 F, VS2 for $2715.00 here: Link

To me, B&M stores are useful that they always have the presence to be there when you have a loose prong, or a cleaning and customer service should be worth some of that premium. Honestly, I like to shop on-line for prices, and see what I am paying in a B&M, then bargain it down. You got a lovely stone. Maybe it would have been cheaper online, but you may also not have had the same experience as seeing it in person. You have a lovely stone, I just wanted to show you how searching online can give you different options BEFORE you head to a B&M. Good luck and congrats!!!
