hi thanks, Im away to see him now, thanks for all your advice, im not sure from looking at the usa prices, it would be cheaper getting one imported, ill come back with the details later - and advise - and ask him for the certificates (labs) etc.

cheers

If you could get any images of the diamonds you are interested in such as Idealscope, ASET or photos - that would be very helpful.

Ok he showed me two stone (one was 1Ct) with white gold mount = 3999 - S1 - VG Cut (GIA CERT) Clarity VS). F Colour ( he offered to do it for 500 less for cash.

the other was a loose stone around the same price - with a 1.14 - colour F - Clarity S1.

I looked through the glass eye and couldnt see imperfections..... Help! cant provide photos, he did say look on the goldsmith website - for the price of the ring.

Afterwards I went to beaverbrook - and looked at a 0.93, and 1.1 Carat ring (round cut), it showed alot more sparkle and fire... compared to the others I saw.
I went in and the round seems to sparkle alot more than the square, or emerald.

1 or 1+ ct looks big enough...... anyway....

at least i found her ring size to be M! :)

Weird. Is that stone a round? GIA do not grade fancy cut in cut performance.

Sorry the diamond wholesaler - showed me these

Princess Cut x 2

1 - 1 Ct - F Color - VG Cut - VS Clarity

2 - 1.14 Ct F S1 - VG Cut.

The other was round that I looked at in beaverbrooks - Round - S1 - G Colour - VG Cut.

So the cut grade is his own cut grade and not issued by GIA.

This is normal, many dealers/ vendors assign their own cut grades to diamonds, however these are no guarantee of a certain level of cut quality so take them with a good pinch of salt!

Okay, now I am well and truly back to square one..... so looking on blue nile, there prices look good?

I just read through your posts, and I think you have decided on princess cut diamonds? I would not recommend blue nile because they do not provide the images necessary to make a consumer smart decision.

Take a look at,

www.goodoldgold.com

Check out their signature cuts if you want an IDEAL cut!

or

www.whiteflash.com

Their ACA''s are top of the line!

If you give my some of your preferences, i can help you find a diamond you might be interested in.

What does your budget look like again just for the diamond?

Just re-affirming, you want princess cut?

Hi thanks for your post - as mentioned I live in Scotland, and my friend got a great ring of bluenile. I think I have changed my mind and will go for a round cut.

I aim to propose in Paris, on the 10th Oct - so I wont have enough time with usa importing etc

Actually, if you buy from BN, you are still importing from US most of the time. :P

Often the diamonds from BN come from the States anyway.

Do you know what your girl friend''s preference is for shape? Did she say she wanted a round diamond? Or you are just guessing?

If you are unsure, I''d try to find out quickly, or look at a vendor who has an upgrade or return policy that is to your liking...

shape - I am told its either princess, or round.... by her closest friend, he sister got a 1.6 Princess for hers - from her super rich USA boyfriend... she commented she liked the shape.....

I guess I could buy from BN and if dont like it send it back.

So what is your budget and specs?

Was looking at around 1ct - spending 3k -3.5k max.....

Probably going to look a round or princess...

Hi does anyone have any further advice on this? guess realistically im looking for around a 1 ct for 3k. white gold.

Hello again,

I''m sorry to hear visiting the wholeseller didn''t go so well. Just to confirm; your budget is £3K = 4950$?
Do you know what kind of ring setting she would like?

yeh, probably the six prong "tiffany style?

OK, well that''s good as this type of setting is usually inexpensive and it will free up most of your budget for the diamond. So you are more inclined towards a round then? You should be able to get a nice round set in a Tiffany style ring for your budget. Whether you import through BN or another reputable US seller such as Whiteflash or Good Old Gold, the time it takes to reach you should be similar. Plus, if you mention you need a ring asap, I am sure they will do their best to accomodate you.

Have you already checked out the above mentioned vendors?
