Hi all,

First want to thank everyone for all their knowledge and help on this forum, I've learned so much just from browsing, but it's nothing compared to everyone else and I need your expert opinion one more time..

So I've been looking for a 1 carat round diamond for 4k (with the best possible clarity, color and HCA < 2) and put a quote request from the vendors here on PC. I got some back, but either they were lacking in one way or just way out of my price point. Then I got a response from Martin Sheffield at USA Certed Diamonds and he found a pretty good one that I think gives me the best bang for my buck. Unfortunately I only have the information below, but he will send the stone to a local appraiser near me who can verify the details before I purchase it. And hopefully the appraiser can provide the additional ASET images, etc.

Measurements: 6.53 - 6.55 x 3.94mm
Carat: 1.02
Color: J
Clarity: SI1 (reported eye clean)
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluro: Faint (Blue)

Depth: 60.3%
Table: 59%
Crown Angle: 33.0
Pavilion Angle: 41.0
HCA: 1.1

$4,005.80

Let me know if there is anything that I should ask or look out for before I put a deposit down and have him ship to an appraiser for the next steps. Thanks!!

GIA graded stone?

Yeah, GIA graded. All the info was from the GIA report. Sorry forgot to include that bit.

Can Martin get you a picture from the supplier before you make a deposit?

Hes supposed to get me a picture tomorrow, I dont think he can get me the idealscope, aset or anything else tho. Ill have my appraiser do that I guess

Also found this one on B2C too, would you consider one over the other?
http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-6345853-1.01-carat-Round-diamond-J-color-SI1-clarity.aspx

Measurements: 6.51 - 6.54 x 3.92mm
Carat: 1.01
Color: J
Clarity: SI1
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluro: None

Depth: 60.0%
Table: 58%
Crown Angle: 32.5
Pavilion Angle: 41.0
HCA: 0.8

$3,879.09

And both of these both rate as Excellent on all 4 HCA measurements (Light Return, Fire, Scintillation, Spread)

Nope. Pancake.

You want a crown angle of 34-35.5.

So no to both?

Yup.

What are you looking for? Size, color and price.

When you say pancake.. is the crown too flat? I am looking for a 1 carat, and around 4k. I'm semi-flexible on the other stuff, but the color no more than J and SI1.

Yes, pancake = crown is too low/shallow, which will affect the light performance.

Well the other diamond from B2C came back as well and they said, "the diamond is cloudy and hence not promo-table". Am I asking for too much within my budget? I know I'm going to have to sacrifice a few things to get a 1 carat @ 4k, but being here on this forum also makes me picky about a lot of other things now that I know!

Are there any other dimension spec's I should stay within besides the 34-35.5 crown angle?

Oh nice, thanks!

According to the proportion table.. the first diamond scores overall as a 1B. First 4 metrics are 1B, the last 3 are 1A.

Try to find something in the 1A only if you're a perfectionist. Those proportions had been agreed by many as perfect (cut wise).

I'd love to be a perfectionist.. especially with all the knowledge here on the forum you can really get specific as to what I want. But I'm limited by my budget of 4k, and I think the first diamond I posted in my original post may be my best option at the moment unless someone thinks otherwise?

Keep searching and try to balance and lower few specification. Don't be like me, buy then return, it was such a hassle.

Keep on searching, and try to make the purchase ONE TIME. Do not rush yourself then end up with the hassle of return and exchange.

With the color you have, add some fluorescence in there is a plus

Here's a picture of the diamond and the GIA report (original diamond listed in the OP). The vendor cant do idealscope or asset, I will have that done by my appraiser once I buy it.

Any last thoughts or comments before I buy??

edit: how do I make the images fullsize?? the picture is hard to see, but the crystal listed on the gia report is shown in the 10 o'clock position meaning the other inclusions listed is near the 12 o'clock position.
