About to buy THIS diamond and need reassurance!!

Hi everybody! Im about to purchase an engagement ring ONLINE and while I think Ive done as much research as possible I need other peoples educated opinion...

So its a "triple excellent" diamond. When I first found websites saying the ideal ranges for table. crown, pavilion, etc this diamond was within the range the best. After seeing a few more "ideal" ranges I see that the depth of this diamond (62.6) might be a little larger than optimal (60%???).

I ran it thru the HCA program and got a 1.7 score when using the crown and pavilion angles. When I used crown and pavilion percentage instead the score went down to a 1.1. Yeah yeah yeah, I read not to CHOOSE your diamond but to ELIMINATE diamonds with the HCA but those scores seem pretty damn good. It scored better than most of the vendors "signature" diamonds that were in my price range too!

The diamond has a cavity according to GIA. Should I be concerned about that? With its high clarity rating Im thinking its insanely small, unnoticeable, and will not affect the diamonds structural integrity. Does that sound like a reasonable assumption???

Anybody have ANYTHING they would like to point out about this diamond? All opinions are welcome! Obviously this is a good chunk of change so I dont want to screw this up!!!

A good way to see if you're getting a solid stone is looking at comps.

If the stone you had linked is more expensive than these stones, then choose one of these instead, as they have the necessary light performance analysis already done (takes the guess work out of it):

The diamond I posted in in the $2550 range so it beats all those prices. Although if the diamond I posted about sells that last one just under .6 looks like a good backup plan! Thanks for your input....anybody else?

There's not really much to say without images, IdealScope, etc. That's what you sacrifice when purchasing from BN. Other PS vendors offer a lot more information to help you make a selection, that's why their prices are a little bit higher. I think that for a lot of people here, the extra information provided is worth the money. On the other hand, BN does have a 30-day return policy (less shipping/insurance), so you could always buy it and send it back if it does not meet your expectations.

BTW, if you're not hung up on VVS1 clarity, here's another choice from GOG that will have better performance (because it's a "premium" cut), larger spread, and lower cost:

It's SI2, but it's an in-house diamond, so you can ask them if it's eye clean.

Thank you! That looks like a great alternative....which leads me to a question...Should I be worried about clarity all that much in a diamond under .75 carats???

I do like the looks of that GOG .7 diamond....shoot....so you really think it will have better performance than the diamond I posted? The much lower clarity grade doesnt affect it that much? I like that it is .7 rather than my "measly" .65, lol

The BN stone is a VVS1.
The GOG stone is an S12.

Count the clarity grade difference.......

At a clarity grade of VS2 and higher, the inclusions are generally so small that they can't be seen by the naked eye (only using a 10X loupe, or in some cases, a microscope). So your VVS1 is definitely overkill, if you're concerned only about the appearance of the diamond (some people prefer not to even have any invisible inclusions, but there's a premium to be paid for that). For SI1 and SI2 graded diamonds, some of them do have inclusions that can be seen, but many others are "eye-clean", meaning you can't pick out any of the defects by staring at the diamond from the top down (in eye-clean diamonds, you might still be able to find some of the inclusions with the naked eye if you trun the diamond upside down, or view the diamond from the side).

If you can't view the diamond in person, this is why it's important to ask a trusted vendor (like GOG), or an independent gemologist or appraiser to inspect the diamond and tell you whether or not it is "eye clean".

Based on the pictures, it looks like the SI2 might be eye-clean, but you would really need to ask the folks at GOG to confirm that for you. They don't bite!
