I have picked out this diamond from Whiteflash, going to go with the Tiffany knife-edge setting in platinum. What do you guys think?

http://www.whiteflash.com/round_ideal_cut/Round-Ideal-Cut-cut-diamond-62865.htm

1.28 carat
F color
VVS2 clarity

Depth % 60.6%
Table % 56%
Crown Angle 34.9
Crown % 15.6%
Star 52
Pavilion Angle 40.9
Pavilion % 43.3%
Lower Girdle % 75%
Girdle: Thin-Faceted
Measurements 7.06-7.09X4.29
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Excellent
Culet None
Fluorescence Medium Blue

I specifically picked out one with medium blue fluorescence b/c I think she will like the uniqueness and splash of color in certain sunlights/uv lights. If it made the price any less expensive, then all the better!

Can I get your opinions on the ideal scope and aset images, and on the diamond in general?

Thank you

That is an absolutely beautiful diamond you have picked, and F VVS to boot! I take it you prefer very high colour and clarity? I just mention it as you could go a bit lower on both and still have a very clean and white diamond, but this is purely a personal preference! MB fluorescence can be a very nice feature in my opinion, your lady may notice a neat glow in some lights.

Everything looks great with the IS and ASET - no worries, it's a winner!

Double Ditto :) looks very very nice :)

The medium blue fluro looks cool under black lights as well :) it gives an awesome neonie glow that I think is yummy :).

Thanks guys for all your replies. Everything looked pretty good to me, but I have only been reading about diamonds a month or so, and wasn''t sure exactly how to look for the subtleties in the ideal scope and aset images that well. I was a little tentative at first b/c it''s pretty pricey for a non-ACA ("a cut above", their highest grade cut) diamond, but in the end, I was pretty happy with the choice.

I have read a lot of threads about Whiteflash vs Bluenile, so I figured I''d add my two cents from my experience here. I researched both sites extensively. At first, I was pretty much just going to go with BN, when I discovered pricescope and learned about WF. I would say the main differences are:

PRICING: it depends a lot stone to stone, but overall WF seems to have a bit more competitive pricing

DIAMOND SELECTION: BN has a much larger selection of stones of all sizes and quality

SETTINGS: I like WF''s setting designs much better overall, for example, I thought the 6-prong Tiffany knife-edge I ended up choosing was much closer to the actual Tiffany setting and much more elegant than BN''s one basic 6-prong setting

CUST SERVICE: I never actually spoke to anyone at BN, but the consultant who helped me at WF was very easy to deal with and knowledgable

CONSUMER INFO: WF definitely wins this one, as they have an actual magnified picture of the exact diamond you are looking at, as well as ASET and Ideal Scope images. They also list more detailed characteristics of each diamond such as crown and pavilion angle that some sites do not have

RETURN POLICY: BN has a longer return period of 30 days vs WF''s 10 days. WF has in addition a lifetime "trade up" option, which seems like a pretty good option to have

So I would definitely recommend WF to anyone. Their main disadvantage I thought was that their selection (at least for what I was looking for - high quality round cut in the 1.2 - 1.4 carat range) was not that large, so they may not have what you are looking for available at all times. But if you find the right diamond, they are definitely a great vendor to go with.

Also, I''ve seen a lot of people ask about Whiteflash discounts. They did give me a bankwire discount (2%) on the stone and the setting, and a small further discount on just the stone for being a pricescope member. I think the further discount on the stone only may have been even bigger had I bought an ACA diamond (Whiteflash guys - correct me if I''m wrong here).

Again, thanks for the replies, and I hope the info from my experience can be useful to other people on the forum. Hopefully, pics of the ring will follow soon.

Jokerbee,

Very beautiful stone. WF does not grade diamonds graded with ANY level of fluoresence as being "A Cut Above". It is very likely that this stone would have been an ACA stone if it didn''t have any fluoresence, given by its excellent gradings and optical symmetry (though they don''t post any "hearts" images for stones that aren''t ACA). Since you like the fluoresence, I would say that you get the best of both worlds. Congratulations

Great review Jokerbee and can''t wait to see your new ring

The stone is incredible, the among the very best in cut quality...should be a real dazzler. You don''t need that high of color and clarity if you wanted to save money or go larger, but if you have a preference for high color/clarity I don''t think you could have picked a better stone.

It will look stunning in a beautiful knife edge setting. I look forward to your pictures of the final ring!!
