Hi, as posted from a post in the jewelry section, we have a stone that weighs 11.46cts.

What I know about the stone is this...
it was put into a broach with old mine cuts and 2 sapphires for my grandmother

It was her mothers, but was kept unset until the broach.

Purchased in the late 40''s at an auctionhouse.

dimensions are approximately 11.9x 14.? (the stone will have meaurements and a cert when it''s set and everything.)

j color, vs1ish

Ok, so here''s what I think is goofy.... the bottom part of the stone (culet?) is open. There isn''t a facet there. I find this odd for an emerald cut, but not life threatening. Why is this?? It''s not huge or anything, but enough for me to see.

And, since the stone is a solid j, would setting it in platinum make it look yellow and dirty?

Thanks in advance, I appreciate your input.

Nice find!

I wouldn''t think this HUGE diamond has a chance to look bad no matter how you set it.

The only safe bet is to try things out though.

Any chance we could... see it?

Why only the cuter knows - it is not so unusual to have such a flattened keel on an old EC.

I can''t think of this as a detraction no matter how hard I try.

Hi Ana!

Thanks for the reply!

I am working on finding some photos of my grandmother wearing the broach at my mom and dad''s wedding (which was 20-some odd years ago! I''m headed up to see her later on today so hopefully by the weekend I will have a pic of the broach!

Would that be considered "windowing??" I guess it makes the stone my own, right?
