I''m researching diamonds and don''t understand and can''t find a key to the abbreviations relating to flourescence. Of course, there are "no"s and "neg"s, but what is "mb" and "ft"? Are there other abbreviations and where can I find the key?

THanks!

SB = Strong blue
MB = Medium blue
FT = Faint

Ahh! The lightbulb hits me! Thanks so much!

Depending on the lab or the appraiser, you can find the comment FT equal to some other place''s SB. Not only are the abbreviations a little strange, but the lack of master comparison tools or any other published, uniform system for grading UV fluorescence makes it the most subjective and misused of the minor grading statements / comments. Look at diamonds under long wave UV and if they glow, the stone has UV fluorescence. It should not be saying "none" or "faint" if the effect is quite visible. Ask to see a medium to strong effect and you''ll have a good idea of what its all about.
