A window over the kitchen sink

That bathroom window thread got me thinking.

I''d never select a home that did not have a window over the kitchen sink.
I can''t stand looking at a wall when I''m working at the sink.

I want a window over the sink so badly. We bought in October, and will eventually redo the 70''s kitchen, and put the sink under the window that faces the backyard.

I never really thought about it, but you''re right. Most houses I''ve seen do have a window over the sink. It would be weird to me if there was just a wall.

I lived in an apartment with a kitchen that had no window.
Worse it was a galley kitchen.
It made me feel claustrophobic.
I especially dislike corner sinks with no window.

Our first house had a window over the sink. Our current house does not but it looks into the family room so it isn''t like i have to stare at a wall.

Well we just renovated our kitchen and bricked in the window over the sink! So instead of looking out the window into our garden, we moved the sink to the other side of the kitchen and now i get to watch the plasma when i do the dishes!

I think a kitchen should have a window over the sink or it should face into another room (like a great room set-up) Our house does have a window over the sink, but the house next door has the most ridiculous landscaping! She uses it as her garden! So, I get to look at her tomatoes for months on end...

I don''t have a window over my sink and I hate it! One wall is basically nothing but windows and a door, but not the wall where the sink is. It''s dismal to me.

My window looks into the neighbors siding so I have tie up curtains that hide the view but let in the light and breeze on a nice day.
Speaking of which, I can''t wait for a nice day.

I don''t have a window over my kitchen sink, just a backsplash and cabinets. I''m fortunate that this condo unit has a window in the kitchen at all -- most layouts in the building don''t -- but it''s on an otherwise useless wall. My previous two apartments didn''t have windows over the kitchen sink, either. It''s definitely something I will be looking for when DH and I are house-hunting, though.

I love the window over our kitchen sink. I decorate it with pretty plants and other things, seasonally, it''s so pretty.

I think I''d prefer a sink that had either a window over it, or one that faced into another part of the home such as a great room. I wouldn''t want to stare at a wall while using the sink, but I haven''t seen many homes without windows over the sink, either.

In our current house (and in every house I''ve ever lived in), there is a window over the kitchen sink. But, DH and I are planning to build in the not-too-distant future, and one of the house plans we''re seriously considering doesn''t have a window over the sink. Instead, the sink is set into a breakfast bar that looks out over the family room. I thought that was cool!

How about houses in which the kitchen sink has a view into the bathroom shower?

Better yet, the kitchen sink is IN the shower.
Save water.

I am 5''1" tall. All those windows over the sink, I can''t reach to open without a ladder. Sometimes without crawling up on the darn counter, even. Hopper or awning window with some lever-type arrangement to open it without having to climb up there might be great.

I wish I had one over my sink! I have a huge window in the kitchen, but it is on the opposite wall to the sink, unfortunately.

I have been there and done that. Some garage apartment a friend rented had it's small bath accessed from the kitchen. So, when the sink drain froze up, guess where the dishes were done... yeppers, shower stall. Ick.

In my house we have a double window over the sink. It makes for less cabinet space, but I love looking out into the garden. It is also South facing so I get a lot of light (thankfully since it is the only window in the kitchen).

yes - this is a must have. must have a view of SOME sort from the kitchen... if not two... must have a window AND a view of the tv for the boring dishwashing sessions lol

I don''t have a window over the kitchen sink but I honestly don''t spend too much time at the kitchen sink.

We have a dishwasher so we just rinse stuff out and throw it in there. Our kitchen overlooks our family room and I spend most of my time preparing meals at the island overlooking the family room and its large windows.

That''s when you just enjoy the little things you placed on the sill and enjoy the light, warmth and breeze. Ahhhhhhh.
Have I mentioned I''m missing nice weather?
