For the job seekers out there....or if you know someone who is...
I just had a friend get duped by a headhunter. Luckily he caught it in enough time!
Basically, he was looking for jobs online and she found an ad on craigslist (cringe...but I know some people do get some legit stuff off of there).
Anyway, it ended up being a situation where the headhunter used public free job postings, falsely representing himself as the organizations recruiter, and asked for his resume in exchange for an interview for a free job fair!
Once he got there he notices that they asked for the source of where you found the job and most of the candidates found them on career builder, not craigslist!!!!
Long story short this headhunter kept calling the HR department of the place she interviewed at, asking about the status of her process. The headhunter then kept contacting him asking how his interview with _____________ went.
He felt a little odd that someone who was supposedly with the company, would be asking about the status of her interviews.
Long story short, he googled anything he knew about the headhunter and found his poor excuse for a website. He also had an AOL email address....Needless to say he''s "Bait and Switching" people in to headhunting gigs so he can take money from people once they get hired. All the while he gets a collection of free resumes that could be potentially used for ID theft!!!!
I know that my friend reported this "head hunter" to the company he is interviewing with as well as the FTC and IC3, are there any other measures that he can take to protect himself?
I haven''t been in this situation at all, luckily! But, it could happen to anyone.....especially when people start to gt desperate after a few months or years of not being employed....
