A small stone. What do you think about this cut?

I am going to buy a second hand Tiffany´s ring. The stone is (according to the Tiffany´s certificate) of this cut:

Isn´t a 54% table pretty small? This stone is quite far from the ideal cut, isn´t it? Thank you.

A 54 table is fine. It''s a tad past the depth I prefer (though it''s not affecting the face up size), but more importantly, I''d want to know if that crown/pavilion angle is causing any light leakage. It''s definitely at the point where it could. Of course I realize there''s no way to tell....

So, I am not much help, except to offer a warning. Can you return it if an independant appraiser finds it lacking?

Ditto Ellen, proceed with caution. It is possible this angle combo could cause leakage ( where light escapes from the diamond when it should be hitting you in the eye as sparkle), so an independant appraisal with an appraiser who is skilled in evaluating cut would be most useful - and make the sale final on it checking out to your satisfaction in all aspects - and get this in writing.

This is what I would suggest if you''re really interested in it. It could be just fine, or not, we just have no way of knowing.

I wouldn''t call it quite far from an Ideal cut, but it''s at a place where precision cutting would be most beneficial. And I have no idea how tightly Tiff cuts their stones....But I have seen some that were not in tip top form.

I didn''t see the girdle thickness, so I used a default situation. You should verify the girdle thickness, however.
