Okay, so I have a really dumb question. I''ve been lurking on this forum for a *very* long time before I finally got up the nerve to post. There is a lot of info here that I learned from, but I could not figure out one thing for the life of me: the abbreviations for our significant others.

Can some nice person clarify some of the terms for me? Thanks in advance.

SO-Significant Other
FI-Future Intended?
DH-Dear Hubby?

That''s all I can think of for now. Any help?

I still haven't gotten all of them down! I do think, "DH" is "dear husband". I know, "SO" is, "Significant Other". "BF" is boyfriend. "GF" is "girlfriend". I finally figured out that, "MOH" was, "Maid (or Matron) of Honor" and, "BM" was "bridesmaid". IS "FI" "fiancé(e)"? We are swapping ignorance here!

Deb :-)

...oh! And, "MIL" is "Mother-in-Law" and "SIL" is "Sister-in-law". No one seems to talk about FILs or BILs. I wonder why? ;-)

Heh heh. The only reason I can come up with is because they usually just sit back and let the women go crazy over the wedding planning?

And thanks for clarifying the other stuff, that''s what I always thought, but was never quite sure.

How funny, me and you are like the blind leading the blind when it comes to certain terms. Hee hee...

yes, I have been wanting to know what FI is. Someone in the know please give us a full dictionary of terms!

I always thought FI meant Fiancee, or does it stand for future intended??

I also think I saw one like ETA or something, but I couldn''t figure out what that meant. expected time of arrival? exception to all of the above? Neither one seemed to fit in the context, although I don''t know offhand which thread I saw that on.

ETA= edited to add.

That''s not a stupid question, Cinderella dear...

I''m a "frenchie" from Québec, Canada, so I don''t know what they all mean either! I couldn''t seem to figure out FI = Future Intended...

FI = Fiancee
IMHO= in my honest opinion
TIA= thanks in advance
BTW= by the way
e-ring= engagement ring
w-ring or w-band= wedding band
RB= round brilliant cut
PR= princess cut
EC= emerald cut
WG=white gold
YG= yellow gold
BF=best friend

I am sure I am forgetting some, but this is all I can think of.

HTH= Hope this helps

PITA= Pain in the as*

OMG= Oh my god
SBT= sad but true

ROTFL or ROFL - rolling on the floor laughing

ROTFLMAO - rolling on the floor laughing my @ss off

DA= dumb as*

Kaleigh: I LOL''d on your last one. Brilliant!

Here''s a new one a la Mara, she loves this phrase. AC= As* Clown!!

Too funny. I was going to post the same question! But the DH thing was never really confirmed. Mine is Dear to me...but I would prefer using My husband-MH. IS it really DEAR HUSBAND?

I think most people use DH, to mean dear husband, but you can use MH and start a new one!!

I had the same question regarding "DH," I guess it does mean dear husband. also, I thought IMHO meant "in my HUMBLE opinion," am I wrong? Oh, and ETA for me at work stands for "estimated time of arrival." Or is ETA someone''s abbreviated avatar/name?

Oh I love that one Kaleigh, my fave...
9.gif
It was actually coined by one of my best friends and it caught on with our group big time though she and I use it the most...

In terms of the abbreviations, I think people kind of think of their own that mean the same thing. aka DH is Dear Husband I guess but I like to think of it as Darling Husband.

Hahaha, this topic is great! It''s about time someone started it. The one that stumped me FOREVER was SO. After say 4 weeks it finally just hit me while I was in the shower the other day - Significant Other!! Duh!

On PS ETA means edited to add. IMHO= In my humble opinion JMO= just my opinion.

Kaleigh
i know you''re referring to me.

And here I thought IMHO meant "in my HONEST opinion".

Kaleigh, too funny with the DA comment, and Mara with the AC. Dancing Fire''s interpretation of DH was the BEST one I''ve heard.
9.gif

I like DH because it can be interpreted in different ways... some days it might be dear hubby, others..

I use FI as fiance, but I suppose it could be future intended also.

A few that I didn't quite catch when I first started posting here:

PS=pricescope (yes, it took me a minute to figure this one out.... )
WF=whiteflash (vendor)
ES=expert selection at whiteflash
ACA=A cut above selection at whiteflash
SP=signed pieces (Vendor)

ETA a few more...
GOG=good old gold (vendor)
DCD=dirt cheap diamonds (vendor)
PM=private message

My husband and I use this one quite often..... We'd say, "Let's PIBE". Play It By Ear
9.gif

i guess it could be a little confusing for a newbie if they walk in and see a post like this...

''IMO that WF ACA H&A will be a great selection for you and your SO. Though you mentioned your FI wants to cover all the bases so they should check out GOG and DCD too.''

...also, I thought IMHO meant ''in my HUMBLE opinion,'' am I wrong?

No. You''re not wrong. Some of these abbreviations go way back to the days of USENET, before the kids, who have appropriated them, were born! IMHO is an old one. Its twin is, "IMNSHO" (In My Not So Humble Opinion).

I tend to know the more general, old ones, but to get stumped by abbreviations of members of a bridal party!
