Hi all,

Could you please tell me what the price ratio difference should be (approximately) from a GIA graded G colour whitish diamond when all other factors are the same when compared with a brown stone of a C5 on the Argyle grading system?

E.G. 20% lower 30% lower etc.

Many thanks,

CT

HEY THERE...
I am NOT a professional, but by my observation, C stones ( Champagne ) are overall priced lower per carat than in the traditional scale. how low, I am not sure. I hope some other people will be able to chime in.

What''s the shape, size and clarity.
Also- the C5- does it have GIA report?

The brown should be less than half of the GIA graded G- but I''d like to know the specifics to give you a more thorough answer.

Tough to tell without seeing the stone. A lot of it will depend on the desirability of the hue. Is it a straight brown, or does in have a yellow or orange modifier. Then you've got how well it's cut and all that.

But in general I'm in agreement with Dave. Half to less than half of what a "G" color would go for. 50% to 75% less maybe.

Great points Rich!

Also- the fact the brown is being called "C5" generally means there is no GIA report.

As Rich alluded to, if a brown has significant orange, it''s worth quite a bit more than a "straight" brown.

Hi all.

Apologies I should have been more specific. This was not for a specific stone.

I have recently purchased a couple of GIA cert'd G whites Si1 (solid eye clean) 50 pointers VG VG VG. So they were my reference grade for comparison on a quality C5 where everything else would be equal bar colour to the whites.

My reference is the Argyle C5 stone that MR R.Wise uses in his book.

Hope this helps. Have to admit I thought about 30% less but if you guys think nearer 50 I know where to bargain from!

CT.

You''re welcome!

Bear in mind that you''re unlikely to find browns with the same type of cutting specifications.
For example VG/VG is far more rare on brown diamonds for a lot of reasons
