Skippy, thanks for the info on the upcoming tour of VLA. I really want to do that sometime.

The Perseid meteor shower should be GREAT this week. Enjoy the show.

You should I guess it appears to happen in April/May and in October. Okay, I will for sure check the meteor show! I love the one I saw a few years ago; it was crazy fun to see!

My fingers are crossed, but with the way my pantsy weather has been recently, I am not overly optimistic that I will get good viewing....

When the sun goes down tonight, step outside and look west. You''ll see Venus and the crescent moon beaming through the rosy glow of sunset. It''s a beautiful way to end the day

Marcy, I had a clear sky last night and I have a question please!

Looking due west at night, to the right of what I think was Saturn, I saw a small red planet ( I presume a planet) very small compared to the brighter planet to the left of it, and it was very red and circular - solid looking. Would that have been Mars? I could see it with averted vision readily enough although it was tiny and I used the binocs to get a closer look.

I bet it was - my dad likes to watch Mars because it''s such an obvious red.

Does anybody else watch satelites? I can see one or two on any clear night but this time of year I get to see TONS during the hour right after sunset. We got to see the Station last week, too.

Thanks Monks!

I did see what I thought must have been one at that time just after sunset, it was very bright and moving quickly. I don''t know what I am seeing though with them.

Lorelei - sorry I misssed your post a few weeks ago. It was Mars. I came here to post info about Venus and Jupiter.

MonkeyPie, it''s fun to watch for satellites and the space station.

EVENING PLANETS: When the sun goes down tonight, step outside and look southwest. What you see might surprise you: Venus and Jupiter, so far apart only a week ago, are now beautifully close together. The two brightest planets are rapidly converging on a spot in Sagittarius where they will form a rare double-conjunction with the Moon on Dec. 1st. It''s a good show; start watching now: Sky map can be found at

Scarleta, the moon was pretty again tonight and I was able to see Venus with the sky still pretty light and blue. Yippee!

Lorelei, rats for pants weather. We have clear skies tonight but I am much to cold to venture out. Speaking of which it''s time to get my spring top off and get out my sweats.
