Hi Everyone,

I was at this mall today and they had a Tiffany store. I have never been in one and from all I''ve read here I expected the worst. It turned out very nice, A nice man opened the door for me and let me in, A very nice lady( I have her name if anyone would like it) greeted me and asked what I would like to see. I told her 3 stone RB and off we went. She showed me a nice 1ct with .5''s, 2tcw. It was G vvs2, in platinum for 27k and it looked HOT. I asked for a D vvs and she checked the computer and said there was one in another city and she could have it for me by Tues. When I asked her the price she said 25K and then she kept checking the computer. This is a 1.07 RB center D vvs2 and .5 D vvs2 Sides RB, 2 tcw, I asked her if the price was correct and in a very dazzed look she said, yes it is. I am half tempted to buy this from them for 25K. The only problem is I have another ring on order. My wife would fall over and need air if I gave her a Tiffany ring, in fact I would most likely enjoy her thanks for a very long time. What should I do? Is it possable the Tiffany ring is a dog and hence the cheaper price or are all Tiffany top of the diamond chain. Can you even ask them for the specs and angles, or do you just trust them to give you the best cut? Please advise, I trust the PS people more than the salespeople. The ring I have on order is 3 stone 2.0 tcw 1.04 center .5 sides, AGS 0 D vvs2, all three stones, for 23k. I would hate to cancel the order though. What do you think I should do?

Lets just say I paid $2,250 for a 1.05rb with amazing cut. It was H colour and an SI1 - but totally eye clean. Unless you take a loupe to it, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and an IF.

Is there a specific reason that you want D colour and vvs2?

Personally, I would cancel both the orders. For $25k you could get something WAY bigger than either of those if you drop a bit in colour and clarity. Very few people can tell between a D and an F. Is she particularly colour sensitive?

Tiffany stones will never be bad stones, but they aren't necessarily the best. Would your wife be more wowed by the sight of a blue cardboard box or the sight of a bigger rock? You know which is more important for you both...

ETA: If you are set on a D vvs2, then I would probably go for the one you already have the order in for.

well for the small price difference I''d cancel the order and get your wife the Tiffany ring since it''s seems like the blue box/tiffany experience would be worth it to her. Tiffany does not sell dog stones so I wouldn''t worry about that at all. You can bring in specs and have them find stones that would fall in the cream of the crop that pricescopers like, but again, no stone from there is going to be a dog and if they have one that you loved, I''d get it. Then she''d get to also enjoy the tiffany treatment when she walks back into the store with her ring.

My FI's stone was $26k. Its AGS 0, E, SI 1 (eye clean). And oh btw, 2.4ct. More than double the size of that one, ideal cut, colorless, and totally eye clean.

If you put that stone next to the Tiffany one, they would look identical, only mine would be twice the size--for the same price.

I think I'm coming to the conclusion that Tiffany stones are incredible--for people without any budget...

BTW, which setting did you order--you should put some stock into that as well...

PS: That sounds like a pricing error... How is a D setting with identical stats cheaper than a G???

Can you return the ring you ordered and still get a full refund? If so then what I would do is go through with the order. When the ring arrives, bring it into Tiffany and compare it with the one you are looking at. And then choose which is the one for you.

First off remember that this forum mainly is composed of people who are hunting for the best deals/quality without the hefty price tag or big store cache. This is the bias you have been sensing I suppose.

That being said, It sounds like you want a very "clean stone" I agreee w/ Pandora and that you should drop to VS2 (no visible inclusions and this will get you more stone). Ditto her comment about color. D is very hard to distinguish from F unless you are highly color sensitive.

I say go for the Tiff''s. no doubt that you have a good feel for how your wife would respond based on what you wrote.

I do feel that it is worth the cache if it is worth it to you even if that means a smaller ring.

Tiffany will certainly give you specs an anything to compare and actuallly you could consider them like a broker who have already weeded through the diamond hoards and have picked good stones.

All that shipping back and forth, bank wiring, composing a setting with alternate vendors and the uncertainty of quality would weigh heavily with me.

For those that don''t mind spending the time or effort enjoy the end result. But there is something to be said for having it all under one roof where your eyes can be the judge outright.

Also, Tiffany''s has a 30 day return policy so if it doesn''t suit you, return it.

Let us know how you go and lots of pics please.

I would keep the Tiffany if it''s important to you and her. I would drop to F VS2 and go up in size though.

And for the record. NO ONE here considers Tiffany a MAUL store. LOL.

I do...

Just wanted to clarify - the price for the stone I mentioned about is GBP (not dollars - ooops!)

Hi Everyone,

Well the store was in a mall, a VERY nice one! I called them back today to buy it and guess what? The price is really $37K. I will not be buying it. It did seem to be a price error from the start. Thank you for all the honest info!!! I only thought the Tiffany would be a GREAT option for the same price, ya know what I mean.

I have another question, a lot of you suggest less color and clarity and more size. I would think that a 3 stone with a total 2 tcw would have a bigger surface area, say about 16mm to about 8.5mm for a 2ct stone. Would this not have more fire and sparkle for the eye to enjoy? I know the 2 ct stone is much bigger in volume to the 1 ct, but what about when you add the two .5''s? I know she wants a 3 stone in a truffle platinum setting, this will be a total surprise.

Her finger is a 4.5 so I thought a 3 stone with a 2 ct center and .75 to 1.0 on each side would be too large. I am not intrested in anything less than the D vvs AGS 0 for this gift. I don''t think there is anything wrong with trading color and clarity for size, I just don''t want to for this ring. She means a LOT to me on "most days" and I want to know that I didn''t hold back, I want perfect diamonds for her to wear and enjoy.

Thanks for all your help,

Heh, heh. I tried this logic on my wife. No luck! Sounds like she''s going to end up with something beautiful though.
