The way this is going, it's only a matter of time before AI gets into the religion racket.

I remember a time when I thought making jewelry from the deceased was creepy. Now we have a dial-a-relative app and soon we'll have robots indistinguishable looking from humans.

I kinda like the robot idea. I'd get a housekeeper bot made in the image of a former loathsome supervisor and make her scrub the entire house with a toothbrush every day.

Nope, I won't fall for that. I can think of several reasons it would be unwise to confide one's deepest feelings, fears, and secrets with some AI cloud that's going to record and save everything. An AI clone of my dad could be pretty entertaining, though. Responses such as "What do I have to DO, Ada! DRAW YOU A ROADMAP??!"

Imagine the embarrassing, confidential, perhaps even illegal criminal confessions one might be relieved to finally get off their chest when they are made to feel like they are talking to a trusted, but deceased, loved one.
... confessions that could be used to blackmail users of this new AI service.

Imagine a spy microphone that crooks hid in a church confessional.



No matter how realistic the AI is, you are not speaking to your loved one up in heaven.
You could be speaking to criminals who are using latest, coolest, seductive, and manipulative technology.
Look what harm Zuck has gotten away with by Facebook, and AI sounds like FB on steroids and crack.
