Hey- Long time lurker, just looking for some guidance. Live in an area where "larger" rocks are typical.

In the market for an I SI1. Should I go for a GIA Ex at 2 Cts, or an H&A 1.75??

I'm an idiot. Here are the specs.

1.73 I VS2 H&A
AGS 0
Table: 55.70
Depth: 61.70
Crown: 34.60
Pav: 41.10

2.03 I SI1(Totally eye-clean)
GIA Ex
Table: 58
Depth: 60.9
Crown: 34
Pav: 40.8

Hi and welcome to Pricescope.

I guess it all depends on the numbers off of the certificate. We need the crown angle, pavilion angle, table % and depth % for us to tell you which stone will do better also Idealscope images will be great to if you have those. The HCA http://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp helps weed out a stone.

GIA is 1.1 on HCA. Sorry, no Idealscope. My untrained eye saw GIA, and it looked good.

You saw these stones in person? Which did you like best?

Only saw the GIA. Can''t complain about it.

The only thing is it''s GIA Ex vs. the H&A. That being said it''s .30 cts bigger

Any way you can see the H&A, either in person or on video? It sounds a bit like you''d like the biggest stone you can manage considering the fact that you mention you live in an area where ''larger'' stones are the norm, but the fact that your comment about it is that you ''can''t complain about it'' makes me think it didn''t exactly WOW you.

I think, in your position (assuming you aren''t on a tight schedule), I''d try and see some H&A stones in person (either that one listed or similar ones maybe?) and compare them to the larger stone, or other similar larger stones.

If you saw the GIA 2 ct and liked it, then go for it. Once diamond shrinkage syndrome sets in, you''ll be glad you got hte bigger stone, especially if size is what you''re looking for.

I agree with this but it would be nice to see a H&A for comparison sake.

The GIA Ex looks great to me. I wasnt trying to sound cavalier, but I have read so much about the virtues of AGS0 and H&A on this site. I think I could have elaborated more, and asked for your thoughts on the virtues of the stone I''m leaning towards.

I want to give my gfriend the largest eye clean(face-up white) stone I can afford. Does the GIA "look" like a winner?

It scored well on the HCA btw 0-2
Factor Grade
Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Excellent
Spread
or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 1.1 - Excellent
within TIC range

If you love the look and size then sounds like the right stone for you.

The GIA diamond certainly appears to be well cut, so if you want to go for the bigger diamond, it should be a good looking stone from the info given.
