Hey guys. I am new to diamonds and have done a bunch of research on all the basic characteristics of the diamond. My budget for the stone is about 4000-5000 and i would like to get a stone that has a diameter of about 6.7-7.0. That size is important to me because the setting (estate jewelry) that i purchased had a 1.38 carat stone with a diameter of 7.0 and I would like the new stone to have a similar (it can be a bit smaller, but nothing that changes the overall look of the ring) size.

The characteristics I am looking for are:

Cut - ideal/excellent or H and A
Clarity - Si1 or Vs2, must be eye clean
Color - J and better
Carat - around 1.1-1.3 to get my desired dimensions
Price - 4000-5000

Most important to us is the fire and brilliance of the diamond, good clarity (no noticeable inclusions to human eye in regular viewing) and staying fairly clear in color (not noticeably yellow when viewed on her hand by itself).

I found that james allen has great prices, especially with the discount from using this site. I have identified two diamonds in my price range, and was wondering if some of the more experienced people here can clue me in on the differences, and what makes one superior to the other. Size and etc...are roughly the same.

Thanks!

Hi there!

Definitely prefer the second diamond, the first is a bit deep and not enough info on the rest of the info on the diamond such as the critical crown and pavilion angles etc. The second diamond could be a great choice if eyeclean, you would need to ask someone at JA to look at it for you and to provide an Idealscope image. If you aren't familiar with IS images this page explains

Prefer #2, #1 lacks the report.
