I''m planning on taking the step and pop the question to my long time gf... I want this to be a total surprise...

I know she is a Tiffany''s gal (granted she did like on verragio band a year ago)... so, I went to Tiffany''s to look at rings the other week and I fell in love with two (kinda three) rings that I believe she would adore...

the Tiffany novo

and a toss up between the the Tiffany round brilliant with channel set (leaning towards this cause the band looks a little cleaner)

and finally Tiffany round brilliant with bead set

http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10020#f+2/0/2004/0/0/2004

All three of these rings are within my budget.

My dilemma now... I''m torn on which one too choose. I want something that will be a classic design and be forever... My gf isn''t the flashy type but definitely loves the flashy stuff... It''s hard to describe...

I love how the clean the nuvo looks... its simple yet screams elegance... but I''m not entirely sold on the cushion cut... from there the RB steps in... but I''m torn on whether the channel set or bead set would be better...
I would love some opinions or thoughts on the subject of the the nuvo vs the rb setting with channel/bead...

Thanks,

-Oz

totally know exactly what you mean, That is how my hubby would describe me. But if you are unsure, and you don't know exactly what kind of "flashy" ring she might like... how bout putting a diamond into a nice solitaire "temp" setting and then later on, you can have her design her own dream setting?

ETA: I happen to like six prongs so the last two would be my choice... and I also like beadset, so I might have to swing for and vote #3

#3 the bead set would be my favorite.

Next would be the novo and last would be the channel set.

I''m a big fan of the Novo.

That said, it''s such a personal decision, I''d make sure that the proposal was in the return period, so that if she wants something else, she can get it.

I would say the channel-set (but I am biased as my bf recently bought me that!

I wasn''t too keen on the Novo in real life for some reason. Haven''t seen the bead-set. I love the 6-prong setting of my channel set, and I really like the band (for me it was between Tiffany Classic setting and channel-set) - I thought it might look odd cos I have small hands and the band seems much wider than the classic (think I''m ring size 4) but the band definitely makes the centre diamond look big

I would go for one of the two RB settings. The Novo is gorgeous but its expensive for the carat weight you get. Since Tiffany already has a big mark-up on their stones you might as well minimize the damage and get one of the RB rings so you get the most bang for your buck. The bead set speaks to me more than the channel set. I also like that the metal on the sides of the bead set stones is thinner than with the channel set. You see more diamond and less metal. It just seems more refined. In the end though, they are all really pretty choices. Good luck!

To tell the truth, to me they all look extremely similar. If she''d like one, I''d think she''d like any of those.

I believe that cushion cuts face up smaller for their weight, so if she''s a size girl, you might to skip that and stay with an RB. In my opinion, the RB would be safer anyway, because its a tried and true classic. Cushions are all the rage right now, but things that are so much in style date more quickly. I think that in 10 or 15 years, just as ''marquise'' says 1980''s and ''princess cut'' says early 2000''s, ''cushion'' is going to say ''circa 2009''. (no offense to anyone who has any of these styles. I think that they are all attractive).

This is a good style for someone who is classic but likes a little flash. the pave is tastefully done and keeps the focus on the ceneter stone in the classic style. Many different kinds of wedding bands would go with these.

Good luck. You seem like that a thoughtful guy.

No expert here by any means...and speaking as someone whom loves the six-prong setting....I find that Novo ring absolutely stunning. Such a personal decision...either way....I have a feeling that she will be a very happy girl!!

Definitely go with the Bead Set. The Channel Set is very similar but the band is very wide. (unless she likes chunky bands) I am a previous Novo fan but I can see your concern. That isn''t as much of a classic look as the Bead or Channel Set.

I''d go with the bead set for sure over the channel set. The novo is nice, but if you HAVE to go with Tiffany I think the bead set is a better bang for your buck.

I vote for #3. Classic, a little "flashy" because of diamonds on sides, seems the most beautiful/ safest choice to me.

I see you''re getting quite a split vote. Personally I''d choose the Novo and then a rb in the classic setting - I don''t like the sidestones on the rb. I agree that the Novo screams classy. Best of luck!

Another vote here for the Novo. But then again, I think I would let her choose.

OP here again... so with some deception and talking about my buddies ring I was able to get her to look at some rings last night online...

haha... she thought the tiffany line was pretty simple... the one ring she kinda fell in love with was this... kept on looking at it and i said it was gaudy and she defended it saying no no... its different and not the norm (a hint that she likes that).

now to find out how much the band runs, a quick google search has led me to roughly 3500... then the great diamond hunt begins... im afraid with that setting i will need a vs1 or vvs2 or greater along with G color and probably an high quality cut...

i will still keep tiffany''s as an option... but for now gonna try to focus on verragio for a bit... i think thats what she wants...

btw... out of the tiff''s... she liked the RB with bead channel... :D

thank you everyone, i will probably still keep posting with questions and what not.

It can be a tricky thing, trying to find the "perfect" ER and still having it be a symbolic, beautiful piece that thrills and delights BOTH of you. If I got it right, the ring you tried to link to is a split-shank design with quite a bit of openwork detail around the shank sides and a rolling profile inside the shank. Different, for sure.

And, now that I read it again, I see in your first post that you said your GF liked the Verragio a year ago – did she try one on back then? Sounds to me like she has been consistent in her desire for Verragio.

That being said, how is your GF regarding maintaining and taking care of her jewelry? Does she work with her hands? For me anyway, the Verragio seems like it would be terribly difficult to maintain and keep clean. I''m curious to know how this band style works comfort- and durability-wise day-to-day. I think I''d be catching the band on all sorts of stuff. But then, I do a lot with my hands and I am a total klutz!

Has anyone here ever seen this style in person, or worn one for some time?

Perhaps for some comparison shopping, you could focus on finding some split-shank styles to look at before making your final decision?

Also, have you thought about a wedding band to match? Sometimes if you are "lost" trying to decide on an ER, envisioning a "perfect," matching WB can help whittle away the contenders.

Although, all this conversation may be moot anyway. If your GF has her heart set on the Veraggio, and you can be happy with it, you may want to go with that. After all, she is the one who will be wearing the ring, day in and day out. And, of course, if she has already stated that she likes it (even defended the ring style!) then you can be sure she will appreciate your gesture of love buy purchasing her "favorite" ring.

Finally, I don''t think that there is anything more fun than shopping for an engagement ring. Perhaps, it may be worth it to "spoil" the surprise a little and take your GF shopping? Or, if you are determined to keep the surprise factor, ask a friend of your GF to make-up some pretense to take her out and go ER shopping (for the friend, of course). See what the friend reports back...
