Test out this illusion to grasp why you might think your diamond looks different from time to time even in the same environmental lighting situation. The more yoiu look at your sparkly diamond, the more your eyes may deceive you. Just stare at the cross in the center and see what happens!

I''m not trying to prove anything commercial with this. I just thought it was an excellent demonstration highlighting the physiological limitations of human eyes for providing reliable, repeatable sensory information.

I only wish there was an explaination why we are seeing what we are seeing, if there really isn't a green dot. I'd like to know why our eyes sees things that aren't there. Maybe this explains DSS.

Very cool illusion. Though I couldn''t explain exactly WHY that happened, our visual system is tied up to have very strong inhibitory feedback to adjacent receptors. This is usually a good thing because it increases contrast, but can also cause visual illusions. The opponent color perception is similar in that it also has lateral inhibition/increase contrast of colors, but it looks here the inhibitory process can''t keep up with the movement of the dot, thus contrasting so much the dot either becomes invisible or the opposite color. That''s my stab at it.

this is def awesome though, I love it when all the pink dots disappear, then I blink or let my focus wander every so slightly and everything comes back very good times

The pink dot is an after image similar to the American flag optical illusion (where you look at a weird colored American flag and then quickly look at a white space and see a properly colored flag.
