Hi. My husband upgraded my diamond from a 1/2 CT to a 1.24 CT, SI, H, GIA cert diamond.
Everything is fine until I played with the AGS grading system and found that my stone is only a 3A. Table is 60%, Depth is 68.1%, Crown is 37%, Pavilion is 45.7%, and Girdle is Medium to Very Thick. Also, when I looked at the stone I see the bowtie effect (but not if I look through a white sheet of paper as suggested). Is 3A a bad stone? We paid $4300 for my diamond with a 14K/Plat prongs setting.
I appreciate your comment.

hopefully a fancy expert can comment, i don''t know much about marquis but i do know that 3A isn''t the best on a scale of 1-4. My old stone was a 3B and it had flaws that I knew were there in terms of cut etc. It bothered me and eventually I got something that was more to my liking.

But the real question is how happy are you with this stone. From what I have heard, bowties in marquis are not unheard of. So seeing the bowtie sometimes may not be a huge deal? Does it sparkle in other situations and do you feel good about how it looks other than knowing it''s a 3A?

sometimes it''s easy to get caught up in the numbers...if you already have the stone and liked it before, then don''t worry about the numbers, also ESPECIALLY with fancies, numbers are not the end all to be all and your eyes are a great judge.

Look at it this way: The depth is a bit more than it might have been and the girdle is a little thicker than it might best be. BUT, and it is a big but, you seem to like the diamond.....Now, that is of the utmost importance. Besides, a bit deep and a bit thick on the girdle, while little faults, do not make the stone fragile. If anything, this will be a rock solid stone....pun intended.

Bow ties are part of marquise stones, so don't try to totally avoid them. I did not review the pricing, but this can easily be done with Pricescope anyway. We all buy what we like. Few marquise diamonds are cut better than 2B anyway, so don't feel badly.

Overall, the diamond sounds like it could be quite acceptable and it sure is way larger than the first one. Size counts!!!!

Well....today may not be the day, but if someone wanted to construct a thread on the use of innuendo here, I think it could be very long.

Best,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I am very happy with it. It fits me perfectly because I have small hands. It sparkles and shines when it wants too :). Promise, last question, does a higher grade cut, such as 1A-2B have bowtie effect as well? Thanks.
