Good example of a lavender Spinel?

Recently purchased a light purple/lavender spinel and was kind of surprised by how grayish in certain lights that the stone was when I received it. I wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on this color in particular? Is it a good example of “lavender”? Should I look for a more stone described as “purple” instead if I am expected something more vibrant?

I spent years looking for the perfect lavender spinel (if you want to see fine examples, look up posts by TL, chrono, and petit bijou). The more saturated ones come from Luc Yen, Vietnam and are hard to find and expensive if you do find them. You’re better off looking for a lavender sapphire (also not super common, but more readily available). Those can also turn greyish in certain lighting, but somewhat less so in my experience than the spinels.

Please excuse my dry hand. I feel like the spinels Yvonne sells are a better representation of lavender spinel. Even though they have a grey modifier, they’re nice. Funny enough, in my work’s bathroom lighting, they look the most lavender.

Her pictures tend to be dark, but in real life, they’re very vibrant. Thankfully, she has a few more to sell. =)

Thanks NKOTB!!

A fine lavender spinel shouldn’t be very gray or color shift to gray. Unless you like gray gems, and many people do, too much gray is unacceptable in finer colored spinels according to the trade.

I love this one from the famed Luc Yen deposit in Vietnam. It color shifts to pink, which is why you see the pink flashes. It’s not mine, but I just wanted to provide a nice photographic example.

I wasn't a fan of the pastel spinels until I saw this one...Petit_Bijou's. In her thread it seems to shift to the blue side.

I have one lavender spinel that doesn't get much love because I'm not a pastel person. It's very pretty but it isn't as saturated as those shown. It can shift pinker but never what I would really call blue :(2

it’s a very pretty stone, you should wear it more often.

I definitely think I need, either a blue or pink modifier. Thanks for explaining that to me! I didn't think that a pink modifier would be what I was looking for but I guess it is!

One of my favorite lavender spinels. Super saturated and hold that color in all kind of lights.

So beautiful! Where did you get it?
