I’ve gotten the emerald bug, and I have my heart set on a solitaire with Georgian-style collet bezel. What do you think of this one?

Minor oil (traditional cedar)
Colombian
1.17ct
$4,095 loose, but seller is offering $3,800 out the door with custom setting
Report is available at cost

It’s the tiniest one in this group photo:

Seems rather pricey for the size, especially considering someone here recently negotiated a $3k price for a much larger stone with similar quality.

I wish I could find the thread, but the search functionality isn’t working properly at the moment.

I also would caution against a bezel. Emeralds are full of fractures, and the stone can easily get damaged.

@T L thanks for confirming my suspicion about the price. I'll see if I can find the emerald you're talking about.

As for bezel setting, I thought the whole point was to protect the emerald from damage? My other emerald is bezel set and it makes me worry much less about breaking it.

I’ve heard nightmare stories about emeralds and bezels. It depends on the jeweler and the stone.
