I'm looking to spend $9-10k for a ring, diamond and setting included and have only vague ideas about what I should buy. I'm hoping some of the experts on this site can lend a hand and point me in the right direction.

After perusing the site (which has been extremely helpful) I've come to realize the cut is by far the most important of the "Cs," so I've been focusing exclusively on round H&A, AGS 000 diamonds in my search so far. I'm hoping for a 1.0+ carat, D-F color range and definitely want an eye-clean diamond, so nothing less than SI1.

Setting: Looking for a simple, platinum, four or six prong ring, no side diamonds, etc. One example is the Vatche four-prong or Fine-line solitare by Le on Whiteflash.

Is this realistic? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!

VERY VERY doable. Is your budget for the diamond and setting or diamond alone? Do you want simple setting or something more ornate. Have you browsed the "show me the ring" section. There is a whole thread of ring settings that might be helpful. Once we get an idea on what you want to spend on the setting vs. diamond, we can be of lots of help!!

Wow, marriahlyn thanks for the quick response. Amazing.

The $9-10k would be for the entire ring, diamond and setting. Obviously, the more economical (i.e., cheaper) the better, but I''m willing to spend up to $10k.

One last question, how much will I (or my fiancee) notice between an E and F color? If E is noticably "icier" is it worth sacrificing size for the E color? Or is F pretty much the same thing?

Thanks again everyone! Much appreciated.

No expert here, but...most would agree there''s very little difference. All depends on personal taste, and how color sensitive you are

Here are some nice choices for diamonds. You would not be able to tell the difference between F & G

1.20 G VS2 ACA H&A diamond

1.19 E VS2 Expert Selection this one is sweet and a great price

At Whiteflash you get a discount for mentioning pricescope discount so you can probably get about $100-$200 off those stones.

GOG H&A Ideal 1.18 F SI1 - looks pretty clean EXCELLENT price

GOG H&A Ideal 1.10 D SI2-looks pretty eye clean - another EXCELLENT price and great bright D color

GOG H&A Ideal 1.12 D SI1

GOG H&A Ideal 1.24 F SI1

GOG H&A Ideal 1.28 D SI1

GOG H&A Ideal 1.28 F SI2 - looks eye clean and it''s bigger and $7600 wahoo!!

GOG H&A Ideal 1.40 E SI2 -looks like it could be eye clean at $8600

If you call and talk to the vendors, they will be honest and let you know if the stones are eye clean are not. These vendors are honest people. Also, when looking at SI1 and SI2 stones, it''s better to have clouds that are more spread out rather than one big booger in the middle. I had an SI1 with 1 black inlclusion and it was eye visible.

I checked some of the other vendors for on hand stones and didn''t fine much for you. I think you should go a bit bigger than the 1ct since you have the funds fot it. There are TONS of stones in the 1ct range in your pricerange. I''m not being biased to these 2 jewelers, I did look at others. These are the only 2 vendors I have personally worked with and have been pleased..

Good luck in your search.

Setting

I think this platinum setting is classical and GORGEOUS at $549

By the way, you might be thinking differently, but my philosophy is get the biggest nicest diamond and a plain setting.

The fine line solitaire is a better choice at whitelfash because it's a thicker more sturdy ring I've heard for only $100 more than the sleek lines one I just linked to.

Hey welcome to PS

. You''ll find some great help here and your budget will easily allow for what you are looking for.

You asked about color...E/F you won''t see a difference. Since you are going for a ideal cut RB why not even think about G/H color? The ideal cut will face up very white even on I and sometimes J/K. I''m pretty color sensitive though so I probably would stick in the G/H range (which I did purchase a G and I already own a marquise D color).

Ebree gave you two great stones to look at (I''m partial to the second one myself

as I''m an SI clarity kind of gal) and they''ll probably be an endless amount of suggestions along your search.

Good luck. Are you familiar with the ''pricescope my diamond'' feature at the top and then have you read the tutorial??? Both serve as great learning tools along with helping to find a great diamond! Can''t wait to see what you come up with

GOG H&A Ideal 1.18 F SI1 - looks pretty clean EXCELLENT price

OOOHHHHH, I really like the above mentioned by marriahlyn...that one looks great.
Wow...you''ve gotten some great stone to look at right off the bat. I''d call WF or GOG and get them to pull some of these for you to see what they have to say about them.

I worked with Wink from Winfields and I looked to see what he''s got (he sells the Infinity H&A) but didn''t look like he had anything in the specs that you were looking for.

These two vendors are highly respected here so I wouldn''t be afraid to work with either of them. Again...good luck. You''ve had some great help already in just a matter of a few posts

If you''re color sensitive, which I am, I like the idea of sticking with a D-F stone. The H/I may face up white, but they won''t be BRIGHT white, so if that''s the look you''re going for, stick with it.

Although myself I own a G, it was a matter of what WF had in their expert selction at the time I ordered my diamond. I think G is the sweet spot, G SI1...............no color and usually no visible inclusions. Great value for the money. Personally I like the 1.40 :)

And by the way, I have an SI2 and I cannot find the darn inclusion any way I look at it with my eyes. It's even a black spot off of the table of the diamond and I've louped it to find it and I CANNOT find it with my eyes.........even with my glasses on :)

I think that's a very healthy budget for a ring! Personally, if my husband had 10k to spend on a ring w/o sidestones or antyhing, I'd want him to go down in color and clarity, not spend TOO much on the setting and get me a bigger ring :). But, I am not terribly color-sensitive (my e-ring is an H and I have a necklace that's a J and they look very white to me). If you are color sensitive, I think that you might want to consider the G, SI-1 range if the inclusion is white and/or can be hidden by a prong or something. Also, I have the fine-line setting, so do a search for my posts and pictures should turn up somewhere. I took those pictures in a yellow room, so everything looks yellow in them, but I promise that they are not, so don't be scared! If you can go somewhere and look at some ideal-cut stones in person, that will probably be helpful for you. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for the input. I really appreciate it. In addition to the ones you've all generously provided links to, I'd like to get your opinions on the following diamonds. Favorites? Do these four not provide the same level of value as the ones listed in previous posts? I'm a beginner here, so I'm just dipping my foot in the shallow end of the pool. If I'm completely off, please let me know!!

Also, are any of these better/worse than the other diamonds?

Thanks again for all your help!!!

sac2bos, I like the third stone of the four you linked. Why? Size and price. It''s bigger than the other three, and it''s almost the cheapest. The four you picked have very similar IS pics. Splitting hairs there. I would not pay for a D because an F will be extremely white. I would not pay for VS1 if the SI1 is eyeclean. Hence, stone number 3. HTH

I like #3 for the same reasons that Shay mentioned. I''d call and ask if it''s eye clean. I bet it is, but better to check to be sure. My second choice would be #2.

I like #3 as well. I think it''s a great choice!

#3 for me also for all of the same reasons already mentioned! Good luck!
