Hi, my stone is .97, D, VS1, H+A, I''m considering a halo (like the "vintage look") and a thin micro pave band.
However, am concerned the halo may distract from the stone itself.
Another option is a solitaire setting with 2 side pears although the .97 may be too small.....
My ultimate goal is to enhance (supersize) the diamond.
Another other suggestions?

Well, for what it''s worth, I recently tried on a halo with a 1 carat center stone and the halo made the diamond look HUGE! Personally, I think a halo would frame the stone nicely and accentuate the center diamond, while larger side stones might be distracting or take one''s eye away from the center (would depend on the proportions of the side stones to center). I would go with a very delicate halo if it were me. Would be gorgeous!

I''d go with a halo if you''re looking to maximize the look of the main stone. As long as the halo is in proportion with the stone, it will enhance rather than detract from the look of the 0.97 ct.

i think a halo can look kind of distracting if the halo is big. how about a thin micro pave halo? I would think pears with a round center stone and micropave band will detract from your stone. I''ve actually been in your dilemna and I would steer away from pears unless they were really small. I think baguettes make a round stone (i''m guessing it''s round) look bigger but they''re hard to match to a wedding band. Or you could put your stone in a solitaire setting and save your chickens up for a bigger stone down the road.

I love halos, and when we first started searching for my ering I was absolutely set on getting a halo. And then I tried on an eternity shared prong solitaire and fell MADLY in love with that.

I assume you''re getting this for your future fiancee, right? What does she like? I think ladies either love or hate the halo look, so just make sure she loves it before you buy.

And Hera is right--a thick halo can really distract from the center stone, but there are some breathtaking thin halos out there, so good luck!

I love my halo, when my future fiance opened the box, the first thing he said was, "Wow, it really makes that stone look huge!!"

I have a 1.092 H SI2 center stone.. here''s my halo:

Gorgeous ring, curiopotter!!!

I agree that a delicate halo would be great to maximize the size IF you never intend to upgrade that diamond. If you do have such a thought, I''d go with a solitaire and put minimal money into the current setting and wait for the upgrade. But for a permanent setting on a .97 stone, I think a halo is lovely!

BUT, that is a very personal preference and you need to know the syle rings your girlfriend likes. I wouldn''t consider getting anything other than a plain solitaire unless she has had input.

i have another vote for the halo (if you are pretty sure she would like it)

curiopotter, your ring is so pretty!

jake, there are a lot of different kinds of halos (okay, so maybe not a lot, but enough). you could also do something like this where the stones are closer to the center stone

Tacori has a gorgeous delicate halo, too.

A delicate halo will absolutely super-size your stone and not take away from it. Dang, these halos make me want one........... I just love the BANG they give!

Thanks everyone for your expert input, halo it is!
Small hijack here, for the same $, I can get a larger stone (1.5 v .97) if I were to give up on the H+A and D color but I chose the "perfect" stats instead, any thoughts?

I'd give up the D down to a G (my personal sweet spot of color vs price, but people have H,I,Js around here too, it's a personal preference thing) and the VS1 for sure, down to SI1 or even SI2 if it's eyeclean...for a bigger rock. The cut...make sure it's still ideal.

Ditto. I''d drop the color to F or G and the clarity to an eye-clean SI1 or SI2 to maximize the size. Of course, I''d also get a simpler setting and use that money towards a larger center stone (up to 1.5).

I agree with what others have posted above -- do not buy a holo unless you are sure your girlfriend likes them. Some women love them & others (like me) really do not care for them.
