OK , here is my weird dilemma, I like both stones, but I dont know which is better for me size wise

the stones are:

.92 G SI1 6.25 - 6.28 3.84

1.12 H SI1 6.5 - 6.68 4.11 from the same vendor, same level of cut quality

Now I am a bit worried that the 1.12 is going to be too big for my small hands (remember I live in australia, no big diamonds here really), but my husband is fixated on the magic 1 carat.

I am happy with the .92 and slightly less worried that it is going to be too big, so the question is

will there really be a size difference visible in both, in which case I might as well go .92 as it is cheaper, but if there is no size difference, then I might as well go with the 1.12 c and make my husband happy arghhhhh

- not even sure what I am asking. I wish I could see them in person, have tried on a ton of stones today, but the different cuts really do make them appear different in size.

So is there much size noticble difference for a .40mm size difference or .19 c weight difference. what would you do???? any aussies care to chime in, I allready wear way to much jewellery here than normal ( and all that means is studs, eternity ring and e-ring, plus watch and sometimes small pendant (all diamonds of course - except the watch!!

I seriously think I need to take a break from the process, i am starting to get too caught up in it and half the fun is in the looking

There would be a little difference in size with direct comparison, not so much without - as the size difference isn't huge then I would think about going with the larger diamond.

Do you have images and specs for each?

I think to some extent it depends on the setting you are planning to use for your diamond. If it is a blingy setting with side stones perhaps you will feel more comfortable going smaller.
However, I think Lorelei is on to something when she suggests going 'up' rather than 'down', all things being equal. I mean, it IS diamonds we are talking here!

If all else being equal, it seems going up couldn''t hurt. Don''t think you would notice it in terms of wearing one or the other. But " knowing" can''t hurt. =)

Oh, what a wonderful dilemma to be in!! All other things being equal, I would probably go with the slightly larger stone. I don't think there will be much difference visually, and it's the size your husband prefers.

I understand how you feel...I have worn a .33 stone my entire married life, and a few months ago received a 1.03 Rb wedding set for my 25th. My circle of friends doesn't wear large diamonds, in fact my closest friends wear plain wedding bands. I actually felt a little self-conscious the first few days I wore it (even though I absolutely loved it), but I quickly got over that! I now feel completely comfortable with it. I say go for it, you only live once!

How big are your studs and diamond pendant? Are you happy with the size of those or do you wish you could have gone bigger? Just wondering. . .personally, I'd pick out the one I'm comfortable with, not the one my DH would like, especially if that size is outside of my comfort range.

You make a good point MC, I didn''t mean to be pushy in my post, perhaps Db2 should just go for the one more in her comfort zone, I just figured the two stones are similar in size, and what an easy way to make hubby happy. But in the end she should get the one she prefers.

Hi I am Australian too. I wear a 0.90 carat solitaire. It is larger than most peoples diamonds I see, I do notice though that younger women in similar financial/professional circumstances to me do seem to be wearing larger diamonds than perhaps 10 or 15 years ago when I got mine. I think 1.1 carats would be fine, particularly since "upgrading" is less usual here than it seems to be in the US judging by this forum.

Thanks ladies, you are all so wonderful

well, my studs are 33c each, and my eternity is 15 points and just right for my hand and ears - I have small hands (short and small! - and the only time it has ever been an advantage is when diamond buying

I love the size of my other pieces, they stand out where I am, but I feel they are a good size for someone who likes her diamonds.

Hmmm, my e-ring is a three stone, so the stone will not be alone and will have good finger coverage.

arghh, I keep on swaying backwards and forwards - I think I wil put up the secs and see what comes out of that - it was a great suggestion.

thanks
got to go and pick up my little one
