Scary... Are these all your pictures? Did you owe the beach house back then?
Found it. This was at the beginning of the storm. Some of this was taken by our neighbors for us. I have scarier video from the too. When the storm was at a maximum. I’ll try finding it tomorrow. In the meantime here you go. I’m in this video near the end. Just saw that haha. As we were surveying the damage.
Thanks for sharing @missy
I lived in Greenpoint at the time. It seemed safe and far enough away, but I ended up losing everything..I lived in the top floor of a 4th floor walk up. My bedroom was in the back of the apartment, the roof was pitched (the floors were wonky and also pitched) and my room was beneath the lowest point. I was in college and lived with roommates.
Our landlord was rather negligent and our gutters were chock full of garbage and rot. A lake of water built up on top of roof and it all flooded into my bedroom - just streamed down the walls. I was going to Parsons and had pinched pennies to afford thousands of dollars of art supplies and had my whole art portfolio beneath my bed.
I was devastated when I lost it all. I thought I’d have to drop out... Parsons gave me a grant to buy new supplies, a new mattress and cover fees of an ensuing legal battle with my landlord to break my lease...it wasn’t much but it was all I needed to scrape by...I remember the day the money came through, I was so so grateful.
Sorry for the tangent. Brought back memories! So sad to see all the damage. I’m so sorry about how much it impacted you but glad you’ve been able to slowly rebuild...
Mother Nature can be so cruel! Glad that it’s a memory now and praying for those currently dealing with damage from Zeta. We were without power for 16+ hours (my sis still without, 34+ hours), but damage mostly limited to roof damage (not ours, thank goodness) and downed power lines.
HI:
Wow. Difficult to see those pictures again. People lives tossed out on the street.
cheers--Sharon
