And finally all fixed Spring 2013 and better than before.

It was a challenging road but very thankful more damage wasn’t done and thankful our loved ones were ok. My parents lost a lot during the hurricane but I don’t have any pics of their damage. They had water throughout their basement that reached their living level.

Just didn’t want the anniversary of Sandy to pass this year without sharing some pics.

Scary...;( Are these all your pictures? Did you owe the beach house back then?

I see the damage to your property. It is beautiful now, hope nothing like Sandy hits this area any more.

The pics that are of our house are the last set. You can tell by the backyard. The first number of pics are from around the area. Our next door neighbor’s house was knocked off their foundation. Some houses in our neighborhood were completely destroyed. Water flooded the streets throughout our neighborhood. Boats were knocked into the streets from the marina. It was surreal.

Just grateful everyone was ok. It was mandatory evacuation so most of the pics are from the days after. Though our next door neighbors stayed throughout the storm. I have video from them. If I can find it I’ll share it. Scary is right. Thanks for reading my posts @Musia and commenting.

Found it. This was at the beginning of the storm. Some of this was taken by our neighbors for us. I have scarier video from the too. When the storm was at a maximum. I’ll try finding it tomorrow. In the meantime here you go. I’m in this video near the end. Just saw that haha. As we were surveying the damage.

And backyard rebuilding in progress. This was taken 6 months after Sandy. Still had to plant trees etc but deck was rebuilt and bulkhead repaired. We had just redone our bulkhead summer before Sandy hit and thank goodness we did. Or else we would have had much more damage.

Wow @missy That looks so frightening...I’m so happy you guys were okay. I can’t believe your neighbors stayed!

All this horror reminds me of something similar, 1938 Great Hurricane and Katharine Hepburn on ruins of her house. Katharine-Hepburn-amid-the-remains-of-her-home-in-Old-Saybrook-after-the-Hurricane-of-38..jpg Glad you rebuilt the place. You have a beautiful house, looks like a castle to me, a cat's place of complete happiness.

wow its been 8 years......wow

Wow. Thank goodness everyone made it through OK.

Your house and the view from it look beautiful btw. It reminds me of where I lived in Beechhurst/Whitestone many years ago.

Thanks for sharing @missy

I lived in Greenpoint at the time. It seemed safe and far enough away, but I ended up losing everything..I lived in the top floor of a 4th floor walk up. My bedroom was in the back of the apartment, the roof was pitched (the floors were wonky and also pitched) and my room was beneath the lowest point. I was in college and lived with roommates.

Our landlord was rather negligent and our gutters were chock full of garbage and rot. A lake of water built up on top of roof and it all flooded into my bedroom - just streamed down the walls. I was going to Parsons and had pinched pennies to afford thousands of dollars of art supplies and had my whole art portfolio beneath my bed.

I was devastated when I lost it all. I thought I’d have to drop out... Parsons gave me a grant to buy new supplies, a new mattress and cover fees of an ensuing legal battle with my landlord to break my lease...it wasn’t much but it was all I needed to scrape by...I remember the day the money came through, I was so so grateful.

Sorry for the tangent. Brought back memories! So sad to see all the damage. I’m so sorry about how much it impacted you but glad you’ve been able to slowly rebuild...

@Cerulean, I’m so sorry. Truly devastating. I’m glad you’re through that and that you ultimately were able to be made whole so to speak. Thank you for sharing. I love when others share and it’s not a tangent at all. And even if it was all sharing is always welcome. ❤️

We were so lucky. So many others weren’t and I heard the news this morning anout the latest storms. People killed. Homes and possessions devastated. :(

Wow, the destruction...no words.

Goodness, I'm sorry for everything you had to go through! Glad everyone and their loved ones came out of this ok!!!

Cerulean - kudos to you for soldiering on!

HI:

Wow. Difficult to see those pictures again. People lives tossed out on the street.

cheers--Sharon

Mother Nature can be so cruel! Glad that it’s a memory now and praying for those currently dealing with damage from Zeta. We were without power for 16+ hours (my sis still without, 34+ hours), but damage mostly limited to roof damage (not ours, thank goodness) and downed power lines.
