I found the setting that works for me. It is not a real tension ring, but I am not sure what it is called. I have a few questions about it for you experts. Will the diamond scratch or chip easily as a result of the setting? The jeweller recommended the ring be made in platinum only to ensure that the setting wouldn''t move over time. Is this necessary? The setting was a tad pricey. Are these types of settings available in replicas?

Thank you. Thank you. You have all cured me of my B&M phobia. I have visited everything from good to very bad and heard all the stories to back it up including: "You don''t need GIA, I do my own grading."

And, my personal favorite ... I asked what size diamond was in the setting I was looking at. The saleswoman said 5 and a half. I said, .5. She said, 5.5. I finally realized that she thought the diamond size and the ring size were the same thing. Yeah, I am not kidding.

Wow.

Just wanted to say that I LOVE that setting!!! :D It really is beautiful.

I can''t comment on the practicality of it, but then I wear 4 or 5 inch stillettos that hurt like hell, just because they look nice - so I''m not the best person to judge. ;)

I''d heard the old B&M line about not needing GIA certs because they have their own diamond graders (what a classic that is!)... but the sales lady who was mixing up the diamond size or ring size is either exceptionally dim, or she thought you were!! ;)

Shocking really, when you think of the money people spend in there.

Anyway, just wanted to express my admiration for your setting - it''s fabulous!

I don''t know about the safety of the diamond either, but I think its beautiful!!!!!

I love the open look of tension sets, but sometimes they look masculine to me. This ring look beautiful and delicate!

I''m not an expert, but from just that one view, it looks like you may have to be careful of not chipping the girdle on the stone. Some say that is what insurance is for.

Ditto. Love the setting but the exposed edges and girdle may be a concern.

BTW - thought I''d share a few B&M stories of my own for a collective chuckle:

I said: "I see this diamond is a G, VS1, what is the cut grade?"
Reply: "Oh, it''s a round cut" (bada-boom!)

I said: "What is the size of that diamond?"
Reply: "It''s a .33, that''s just a bit bigger than .3 you know" (double bada-boom!)

Sorta a thread jack, but my fave was an SA trying to forcibly convince me that it was a radiant cut that I wanted and that I had no idea what I was on about - (it wasn''t a radiant or even close I was asking after)..She actually went as far as insulting me via email as she thought she was Sooo right. Not cool.

Actually, I''m sure its been done in varying degrees but is there a particluar thread on funny B&M experiences, just to lift our spirits when we need? Thats a good idea..
