Hi all,
I'm new here and just started my search for the perfect ring for my woman. I have finally set myself on the centerpiece stone. My girlfriend's hands are very small, so I started to look for something no more than 1ct MAX. I have looked through at least three dozen stones before finally setting on one.

It's a .72ct, D Color, VS1, Signature Ideal Cut (Excellent Cut on GIA certificate ), Ex - polish, Ex - symmetry, Ex - cut grade, H&A. This diamond was OUT OF THIS WORLD! I couldn't believe my eyes, I almost went blind.

Well, I asked the independent jeweler to send me a couple shots. Granted, pics can be deceiving, but this stone is outstanding in person.

Also, the jeweler is asking $4,100 for this stone ... and from my research online, that seems fair to me for the quality characteristics. This is a GIA certified diamond and I have seen the certificate.

On another note, on the GIA certificate, it says "CLARITY CHARACTERISTICS: Crystal, Feathers, Pinpoint Finish" ... can anybody please explain what this means? Thank you very much for your help.

As for the rest of the ring, I am getting a Scott Kay three row semi-mount duplicated. It'll be made up of .75ctw stones, all in F color, VS clarity diamonds. There will also be two surprise diamonds, also in F color, VS clarity. The setting is attached below ... I am getting that ring duplicated a little differently, but will be very similar.

Here are some pics, please let me know all your thoughts and thank you again.

It seems my pictures didn''t come out ... can anyone post them for me I send them via email ? Or let me know how I can post them? I''d for you guys to see the diamond and the GIA report.

Thank you!

whoops compressed the cert too much...

i cropped out the proportion data since that''s usually the most pertinent.

Crystal - little diamonds inside your diamond

Feathers - a crack inside your diamond

Pinpoint - tiny diamond inside your diamond

the diamond looks pretty good to me. altho the idealscope image looks to be taken at a slight angle.

Yep that one does look tilted downwards, but it appears to be a lovely diamond and good numbers! Good job on the posting Hari! With the inclusions they are absolutely fine in VS1 - no worries.

That setting is stunning!!!

You''ve got a great diamond there, not a thing wrong with it. And a beautiful setting as well. I think you''re going to knock it out of the ballpark!

Thank you, all.

The diamond has been purchased, the setting will be started shortly, I just want to be 100% sure of her finger size before moving forward ... I have a plan to figure this out :)

The setting is going to be in 950 platinum, with the F color, VS clarity stones as mentioned above. The total carat weight is going to be right around .78 for just the setting; 1.5ctw for the entire ring.

The quote the jeweler gave me was $3,500 just for the setting, which sounds about right given it''s in platinum.

I''ll be sure to get final pics once everything is set. The jeweler said right around November timeframe is the anticipated completion date.

Looks great! Good job doing so much research!

Is GIA a reliable source?

I have hearing from some folks that it is not ... for instance, classifying them as an "Excellent Cut" is not excellent? How true is this as far as their reliability?

As you can see from the grading report above from GIA, the cut is excellent, polish - ex, symmetry - ex ... the diamond looks incredible, but just wondering the faith I should have in GIA now.

Thank you.

Thank you.
Yes.

Their EX range is a bit broader than AGS, but you have nothing to worry about. Your stone falls in the range of both GIA EX and AGS0.

Any other comments or thoughts?

Thank you!!!

The jeweler said the ring should be complete by the end of October/beg of Nov ... they are almost finished the design and preparing for the mold!

I was going to say something about the inclusions and not to worry about them in a vs stone... But someone beat me to it. It looks like you will have a stunning piece when you are done! Congrats on a great job!

I''m always late to answer questions but it looks lovely and I can''t wait to see the finished ring.

The setting will be in 950 platinum ... and I'm also getting our initials engraved inside the ring on the bottom portion of it :)

GIA is one of the top ranked grading companies available. So no worries there! prettyyy!

Thank you for the kind words!

The jeweler emailed me last night ... sounds like things are going well and I should have it in a couple weeks! Woohoo!!

Here's his email:

"This past weekend, I was able to cut out some wax models and I wanted to fine tune a few things that I think need attention. The CAM system is actually cutting the wax as we speak and I think I’ll have it right very soon!

Rest assured that we’re right on schedule for completing it by the end of the month...Thanks again for your patience!"
