Hello All! I'm an avid lurker.
A few years ago, I found a .71 G SI1/2 RB diamond. . .found as in on the ground. No reports of a loss where I found it or in the paper. . .so I kept it. I had the diamond set as a pendant. I originally wanted it set into a ring, but was told by my jeweler that the feather inclusion that is along the edge may pose a safety issue in a ring being knocked around. He said something about doing a bezel, but I wasn't sure, so he set it in a WG pendant for about $20. . .his cost for the finding.
I still want a ring. I am in love with the Tiffany Etoile setting as a right hand ring. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on it, but I don't want it to look like an engagement ring either. I was thinking about doing an Etoile replica and then having stones from a sloppy channel set ring that I was given (no sentimental value to me) burnished into either side of the shank. 4 on each side, a la etoile band style. . .scattered some would say. The melee stones are about 2.5 mm each. Do you think that this would be nice as a RHR? Or would you think engagement ring?
Now a question for the pros!
Who has the best replica of this setting that I could send my stone to? WF? I have never had the stone appraised or insured, and it obviously isn't certified. I know my bit about jewelry. . .worked in a B&M store for a while and trust the estimate of colour/clarity. It's really firey and you can see aarows as well. I believe that WF would require it to be insured. . .which i was hoping to hold off on that cost. My FIL is a jeweler, but was bi*chin and moaning about carving a wax. . .(he's near retirement and pretty unmotivated right now with the hard times). I do have a 20" 950 platinum chain and the scrap from the channel set ring, also 950 that I would like to melt and be used in the ring if possible to absorb some of the materials cost. Will anyone even do this? It would be worth it for me to send it to WF and insure the stone if they will. Thanks in advnace!
Sorry if this is all over the place. . .not collected and jacked up on starbucks.
