Hi! I've been a long time lurker and have learnt so much valuable information from everyone here. Thank you! I am about to purchase a 7 stone ring from IDJ where I've requested hearts and arrows cut. It's for my middle finger on my right hand size 5.75. I have 2 young kids (toddler and newborn) and want something for everyday wear. My engagement ring (also hearts and arrows which I love) has a very high setting and I barely wear it now with my baby and toddler as it gets in the way unfolding/folding pram, helping them on play equipment at the playground ect. I just wear my plain platinum wedding band now. Hopefully when they're older and I don't have to man handle them as much I'll be able to wear my engagement ring daily again but I'd like something sparkly in the meantime. Alina at IDJ has been helping me with the 7 stone. I just wanted to double check a few things as this is my first time purchasing from overseas and unseen.
1. Will 7x0.15 give my 5.75 middle finger adequate coverage?
2. Will this be enough as a stand alone ring? I wanted something that is sparkly but very low set and that I can wear all the time. I was tossing up between this and 5x0.2, however the lower profile of the 0.15 stones makes me think it will be more suitable for me to wear at this point in my life. Or is 5x0.2 better as a stand alone? I was worried about 5x0.2 not giving giving enough finger coverage.
4. Alina has been mostly very helpful (although sometimes she doesn't respond to my questions) and explained for payment I need to wire the money. I'm kind of nervous as I've never purchased like this before. Is this how everyone else does it for an international purchase? Just transfer the money and wait for the ring to arrive?

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!

I *just* received my IDJ wedding bands that are very similar to what you describe. My fiancée has a 6 ring size and we ended up getting a 7 stone, 16 pointers each (We asked for 15 pointers and got a little extra). I can definitely confirm that our design gave full coverage of the top of the finger.

Some comments based on my experience:
1) 15-16 pointers are definitely large enough to have a good stand alone bling-bling presence.
2) We liked the slight taper in width as the ring got closer to the stones, made it feel elegant.
3) The first ring they made for us actually had a LOW profile (ie: height of basket, etc) —- we had to ask them to redo the ring with a normal profile. The low ring visually caused all the diamonds to squish together more and made them look like a “line” of diamonds. We very much wanted distinct round diamond shapes visually. To further enhance that individual-diamond shape they put the prongs even closer together between the stones.

Those two combined changes made a HUGE visual difference. Extremely happy with the second IDJ ring.

I have a size 7 20-pointers from IDJ. The setting is a U-prong. The diamonds look more like a straight line. I prefer the look of
@NY_Resonant 's ring that shows off each individual round stone. I do think 7 15-pointers on a 5 3/4 finger will give you full
coverage across the top.

Will it be enough for a stand-alone ring? I wear mine as a standalone and am happy with the look it gives me. Unfortunately,
this is a subjective question so YMMV. How big is your e-ring?

I am in the States and we tend to wire money. Not sure how international people do it.

Other questions/issues/requests you may want to ask/tell Alina.

1) Did you ask for PS quality stones? Should be better cut.
2) Tell them you dont want to see any large pieces of carbon in the stones with a loupe. I kind of feel like a small dot of carbon is
okay-ish but anything larger is no (this would depend on how much your paying for the item)
3) Tell them you want all 7 stones to be the same quality.
4) Find out if this is going to be a "custom" piece (which means you cant return it). Obviously, you dont want to have to
return it since you are international...but good to find out in advance.

Yes, I do also recommend asking them for pricescope quality diamonds and clarifying what that means with them. For me, it was: F color, SI or better clarity, eye clean at 6 inches distance, ideal cut diamonds. Tell them your OCD and quite picky ;-).

Bottom line though is that IDJ has beautiful diamonds.

I adore your yellow gold ring! Wow, what a stunner!

Thank you so much everyone!

@NY_Resonant soooo helpful! I will ask for the same design as yours with the taper and prongs a bit closer together to emphasise the roundness of the diamond. It does look heaps nicer than the bar look when they are close together. Also the taper is lovely as it makes it look like it's suppose to be a 7 stone with the diamonds as the feature rather than an eternity band in disguise. If it's ok with you, I will send Alina photos of your ring to copy.

@tyty3did My engagement ring is 1.5c centre stone with 8 stones around it totalling about 3.9c. This 7 stone is for my right hand and I don't think I'd ever wear it on the same finger as my e ring and wedding band. However I would like to wear it at the same time when I am kid free (so e ring and wedding band left hand, this 7 stone on my right). I did ask for "price scope" quality which Alina has assured me. Looking back on the emails she refers to "price scope" quality as F colour, SI1 eye clean and excellent cut with hearts and arrows. I will mention I do not want to be able to see any carbon and for all of the stones to be of equal quality. Your U prong design with the 20 pointers is gorgeous too! I was very tempted by the u prong design (the one on whitescope) but I thought perhaps would be more low profile?

Thanks everyone, it's very reassuring to know that ID comes so highly recommended!

My impression is that it is a custom piece as she said it will take 2-3 weeks to make but I will double check with her. Good point about returns ect.! Ok the bank wire transfer seems pretty standard for payment so that's good to know. Haha thinking back ok it we paid cash for my e ring to avoid eftpos fees. Wire transfer seems a lot more civilised than counting out cash!

Glad you liked it.

Please feel free to share pictures of the ring with Alina.

Tell her to please micromanage the bench-craftsman like she had to do with mine.

After the first ring, she knew I was picky and paid a lot more attention (IMO) for the 2nd. It was very well crafted.

I love NY_resonant’s 7stone. I wouldn’t make the ring any lower profile. I don’t think the band will get i. The way. It’s not the same as a solitaire.
I’m wiring money to Singapore for my ring. IDJ is reputable. Should be no problem.

Thank you everyone for your help and reassurance.

@NY_Resonant is this ring ok to keep clean? I read that some baskets can be a nightmare to keep clean. Having said that I don't think I'd go with u prong (although it looks so beautiful especially from the side profile) as I want this ring to be quite carefree and it will be on my dominant hand so might get thrown around a lot more.

My mother has used basket settings for years and uses an ultrasound for cleaning. She has never had an issue.

Awesome! Thank you so much. That's great to hear.

Money transferred, images of @NY_Resonant ring emailed and all the extra above details requested. Very excited! Many thanks for everyone's advice. Fingers crossed Alina makes sure I get one as nice as everyone else's who kindly shared pics!
