Diamond A: 1.706 CT -- 7.65mm (7.63-7.66)
Diamond B: 1.560 CT -- 7.53mm (7.50-7.55)

Since I''ve done pretty much ALL my "shopping" on-line up to this point....I really have no concept of the visual size in hundreths of mm''s!! I did see a 2CT (appx 8mm) in person....**loved it** but now that I have come down in size for cut quality...I am looking at smaller diamonds and (of course) want it too "look" as big as possible.

I did print the helpful PDF chart from Amazon listed in the helpful links....it''s not so exact tho.
Nor do I own a ruler that measures so exactly....

Will the above two diamonds be visually very different in size?!?!?
The actual "sparkle" of these two diamonds should be comparable, since they are similar in cut.

Am I literally splitting hairs on this one!?!

Very, very little difference. It is not a deciding factor.

I can''t even draw 0.1 mm on a piece of paper. Size difference will not be noticeable.

Thanks Ellen for that clarification.

Diamond A: 1.706 CT -- 7.65mm (7.63-7.66) ALSO: SI-1 H H&A Strong Fluor $13,210
Diamond B: 1.560 CT -- 7.53mm (7.50-7.55) ALSO: VS-2 H H&A Fluor None $13,604

I have not spoken to anyone ''yet'' in person, waiting for Nice Ice to return call and GOG not till Tuesday.

SOOOOO....how does one decide

Here's the link to the HCA - you'll need the total depth, table, crown angle and pavilion angle for each diamond.

http://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp

Ideally you want to be looking at a score between 1 and 2 and Ex/Ex/Ex/Vg for Light Return/Fire/Scintillation/Spread.

Are both diamond certed by the same lab? Which lab?

How have they been graded for Cut, Symmentry & Polish?

You'll need the vendor to check the SI1 is eyeclean (to your own definition of what eyeclean means) and that stone A is not oily or milky due to the string fluorescence.

If you want to post Idealscope images etc PSers can comment on those too if you wish.

You are best deciding with Idealscope images, photos and individual proportions, rather than HCA scores at this stage, as it should not be used to select diamonds, rather to eliminate lesser performers, particularly with the calibre of diamonds you are considering. Also it depends on whether you prefer the higher clarity or not, but I would wait now until you get confirmation from Todd, that the SI1 is eyeclean, or eyeclean to your standards!

Lorelei, I completely understand and agree that the HCA is a rejection tool and not a selection tool.

However, as no information was supplied at this stage regarding cut grade, is it not reasonable to assume that one of these diamonds could still be eliminated based on the HCA scores and that it is still worth running the two stones through the HCA to see how they fare.

Potentially, one of them might score really badly...

Cleo, ordinarily yes, but I have seen the diamonds that Bobbi has been considering from her other posts, and they are two excellent stones.

Heheheh... using your secret knowledge! :)

Your answer makes so much more sense now I know that... thankyou.

Thanks Lorelei for chiming in!! Sorry to confuse those that did not realize the initial diamond reviews occurred in a different string of notes. This string was more about the very slight difference in size.

I have actually been on the phone with Todd at Nice Ice for the past 2 hours!!! WOW....so much to learn!!

Todd says that the 1.70 CT is eye clean from the top, to his vision. He will recheck from all angles as I am planning of going with a tension set.

The next call is tomorrow to Jonathon at GOG to get his ''eyeclean'' response on the 1.56CT.

Todd offered to check with his resources for other eligible candidates...I accepted his offer....but told him that as overwhelmed as I already am.....it may be best to go with one of these....and he agreed after looking at the online info for the GOG diamond...both look really really good...and would be great choices.

So for now, I wait (impatiently) to talk to Jonathon at GOG.

P.S. Lorelei...I was going to "reserve" the GOG diamond on Saturday night, but was confused when I got to the point of entering my credit card information. I guess you have to pay money to reserve?!?! I was too tired and bug eyed to read anymore of the details or policies...so I just cancelled out. HOPING and CROSSING MY FINGERS....someone else hasn''t snapped it up!!

I am drooooooling at the thought of 1.5cts+ of sparkling diamond loveliness and can''t wait to see photos!!

If all else was equal, I think I might pick the stone with strong fluorescence if it was me.. just for the fun of having something new to play about with! :)

I am not too sure if you have to pay to pop a diamond on hold, I would drop Jon an email. But I am a big believer in fate, you will end up with the diamond you were meant to have!!

The excitement continues to build as my diamond selection narrows. I spoke with Sarah at GOG....she is sending a video of the diamond for me to view. I also am trying to coordinate having both diamonds sent to an independent appraiser in my city for me to compare the two side by side. The most distinguishing factor between the two stones is: one has no fluoresence and the other is very strong blue.

I am hopeful that the coordination will occur and I can view them side by side. Having said that.....I only know that when I look at any diamond...all diamonds....THEY ALL LOOK GOOD TO ME!!! So what specifically will I be **looking for**!??!?! One of them calling my name saying "pick me!
30.gif
pick me!"

I have only ONCE had a jewelers loop in my hand....to view a diamond and I could not see anything...it was very unsuccessful. I am a little nervous that I won''t really be able to make any logical decision except one concerning the fluoresence....and from what I understand....that pretty much comes down to personal preference.

Any thoughts and help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

lol

You want to look at how bright each one is, how they scintillate. Roll them around, move them back and forth. Get them in sun if you can, see which is more firey. Look at them in a dark spot, see which one still seems more lively.

After a bit, one will let you know it's the one! And have fun!
