Gday guys,

I am trying to decide on a diamond for my girls E-ring, on a fairly limited budget.

I have to buy via James Allen for the setting I want.

Diamond A)
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1500372.asp

Diamond B)
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1493097.asp

so the difference is only $300, to go up a comparitively large percentage in size, with the trade-off being the flaw.

Do you think Diamond A will be eye-clean? or if not eye-clean, would it be noticeable?

Cheers for the help.

Dan

Cheers for that advice mate.

What setting are you looking at? You may have choices. JA is a great vendor but we also want to maximize your budget. ;) What is your budget?

Gday WebDiva,

I'm getting a customized Danhov abbraccio swirl setting.

JA will only customize the ring if I purchase my diamond through them as well as the setting.

We are cutting the number of Pave diamonds on the sides of the ring, and making the ring in Palladium in order to get the best bang for my buck.

With that decision made, I am left with a budget of around $1800 for the stone.

My priorities are Cut, Carat, Colour/Clarity.

My GF doesn't want anything bigger than .7ct, or anything smaller than .45ct, and personally I found the diamonds around .7 had much more of a presence than the .5ct diamonds we have viewed. the difference is much more noticeable than between say 1.5 and 1.7.

So I have sacrificed colour down to I/J because I don't feel that slightly warm diamonds are any less beautiful. and I will sacrifice clarity down to eye-clean to achieve the cut/carat combo.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Cheers,
Dan

oh right! I remember the thread, good that they brought the price down! I loved their service, btw!

Your thread doesn't seem to be getting much traction - if you post a more broad topic like "Looking for a .7 ideal cut RB at JA for $1800 - help!" - it may get more responses. I'm not the RB expert, and some of the folks here can find needles in a haystack on JA that aren't H&As and may be more cost effective.

Are you familiar with the HCA tool that helps you weed out poor performers? It may help with looking at non-H&A's.

That said - here's a .68 H AGS000 ideal cut for $1450:

I would ask JA if it's eye clean at 12 inches away - I see some smudge on the table there.

You would basically gather up all the suggestions on the top 3 contenders and then get JA to do idealscopes on them. You can put them on hold before you post them - before of PS lurkers snapping them up! There's precious little in this price range and size!

Gday web diva,

Thanks a lot for the help :)

I'm a week or two away from buying the diamond at the moment so I wanted to wait a little while anyway.

Do you think I'll be able to get a better diamond by steering away from the "true hearts " line and sticking with ideal cut?

Cheers,
Dan

With the help of one of the RB experts here, perhaps. I dunno in a weeks time, though from one specific vendor.
