Hi, I'm helping a friend with her diamond shopping. I told her that $6500 will most probably get her a 1.2ct J ideal round. But today we went to a chain store that sells mostly GIA warm diamonds and there were some 1.6 ct L and M to be had for $6500. My only concern was that the stones aren't well cut. I told her I will help her search online for well cut 1.6 ct L and higher diamonds that has an upgrade policy. If I can't find any, she will most probably get one of the L diamonds she saw today. That store has no upgrade policy though.

Can anyone help with a $6500 budget around 1.5-1.6 ct L color and above if possible? Most upgrade policies require 2x the original amount. Only GOG has a less restrictive upgrade policy but they don't carry L round ideals. While they upgrade L AVRs, those carry a premium and won't be at a size that is compatible to my friend's budget. Can anyone tell me where I can find something in her specs and budget with a less restrictive upgrade policy? Thanks in advance.

Woof mama, Travelgal, thanks for the links. I will pass them on to my friend, and come back for more help to pick a diamond after she has narrowed down her choices.

Explain to your friend that often poorly cut diamonds face up small compared to well cut diamonds. I absolutely would limit the search to GIA Excellent cut only.

But really, I think antique stones look SO much better when you are getting into low colors than a modern round brilliant. Have her look at Jewels by Grace and Love Affair diamonds.

Thanks, DS. I will link her to JbG and LAD. But I can tell she is quite taken with a 1.6 ct L that we saw yesterday. It was GIA X X X but the numbers aren't great. 33 crown and 41.2 pavilion though table and depth are in PS acceptable range.

Then she should get a MRB.
I own a k MRB and I think the color is beautiful. MRB facets and all!

This seems promising. 1.52 not 1.6 but I mean that's pretty close. If o remember right the numbers for this stone are quite similar to my own. Under budget and ritani will provide pics for her. Plus they have really beautiful e rings if she wanted to buy the whole ring from there.

hi OP, I did a quick search and found that Ritani had many options for your friend, L color with a variety of clarities (vvs to si2) in her price range. So, I second the Ritani vendor as others have. There were even 3 options for K color (Si1/Si2 and an IF) all for less than $7k.

Neil, thanks for the recommendation. I will pass it on to her. I like that I can see the fat arrows in the one you linked. Hope she likes it too.

Hi luvdajules, I will see of I can find others on Ritani for my friend. Thank you.
