Crown Angle: 30.0°
Crown Height: 11.0%
Pavilion Angle: 42.2°
Pavilion Depth: 45.5%
Star Length: 55%
Lower Half: 85%
Girdle: Thin to Very Thick, Faceted (6.0%)
Culet: None

it also says that proportions and cut is GOOD on gia report..

Unfortunately the HCA just says that the girdle is thick and can not give me the HCA number. Please someone let me know what you think. Much appreciated. thanks

A definite no.
Proportions issues
Physical symmetry issues => optical symmetry issues, unless perhaps the entire girdle is thick or thin and the opposite is due to an inclusion or localised asymmetry
Overly thick girdle possibly (probably) hiding weight = diminished face-up size
Super low crown + thin areas of girdle = significant chipping risk

I get a 4.3 on the HCA. VG/F/F/VG. (for a normal girdle, though)

With a score and angle combos like that, I would shy away from it as a center stone for an E-ring. Do you have different plans for the stone? Do you have any pics of the stone? You can probably find a better looking stone if you search on one of the vendor's sites. I wouldn't look at anything below an EXCELLENT cut for a GIA stone, and even then, they have to be weeded out to make sure you get a great excellent cut stone. If the stone you're looking at is only a GOOD cut then perhaps it's best to keep looking. =)

thank you for your respond! i don't have the picture just both EGL and GIA certificates for the same stone. its a large stone almost 5 carats:-) i'm looking for the stone that is at least bw 3-4 carats:-( i was going to see the stone in person but i guess now i will not:-)
i just started looking and reading tutorials about quality in diamonds... i thought that gia = best diamond :-) thank you!

That makes it tough -- large, superbly precision-cut stones are incredibly rare - far more so than in the smaller sizes, because the payout for weight retention increases exponentially as size increases. So while this particular specimen is well out of range of comfortable proportions, I would advise you not to get toooooo caught up in numbers and optimal results on all the available tools unless you want (and are willing to pay the premium for) a boutique cut-nut curio.

What is your budget, and what colour/clarity are you looking for? We can help, if you would like, but your best option is probably to call some vendors and see what they can do for you - they'll have access to more stones than we do.

Btw it's not just that it has a GIA report that you care about, it's what the GIA report says too :halo:

Can you post the colour and clarity listed on both the GIA and EGL reports for us? Is it EGL USA or EGL-I?
Or you could just post the GIA and EGL report numbers and we can find the info online ::)

Here's a shortcut for you...only look at GIA Excellent Cut stones. In the case of diamond grading, "good" is actually bad. Even some within Excellent cut we would not recommend since it is a broad category. But you will be wasting a lot of time looking outside the "excellent" range.

What is your budget?

DAMN! That makes a little more sense then. I've seen alot of those larger stones, and most aren't cut too well. The ones I've seen, although large, look really fake! LOL

A lil' extra on the girdle, brillianteering (well, "over-brillianteering" I guess), super long lower halves - lots of ways to hold onto a bit more weight... Some even perfectly okay by PS standards, too!

what is the color and clarity on the GIA report? how much $$$?

I'd pass too. I don't think there'd be too much sparkle in that stone, and for sure, not much fire. :knockout:

thank you for your input. This stone was sold for 50K including the platinum setting..i did not see it in person b/c of the poor proportions.
I'm looking for a stone above 3 carats. I have sent the request through PS but did not get any "reasonable" quotes. I know b/c its above 3 carats it will be hard to find that triple ex and stay under 50K- but to me size matters i have HUGE:-) hands:-) and long fingers (i'm a piano player).. i'm looking for RB GIA cert G-H-I color VS2-SI1 clarity. I live in PA within an hour to NYC and 1.5 hours to Philadelphia. thank you

This is the second time that I've seen you post about the size of someones budget, so I just thought that I'd mention that we try to refrain from making comments and simply try to help the poster make the best decision they can based on their budget, be it large or small.
:wink2:
