Hello, all. I have been lurking here for a few weeks now trying to cram all this new info in. I'm ready to propose to my gf and have about $7K to spend.

I asked her what's more imortant to her and she said that quality is the most important (as long as the naked eye can't see... she has VERY good eyes), size (at least 1 ct.) and must be round.

I've been looking at bluenile, whiteflash, and other sources and don't really know what to expect. I guess keeping the depth at 62% and lower will help make the rock look "bigger," but I'm unsure of how the relationship between the depth and table are rlative to the brilliance or fire. I've been mainly looking at VS2 or better and H color or better.

It's just really confusing and I'm sorry for even asking. Can you experts help me out in finding the best bang for my budget?
 
I''m thinking something F - G, VS2 - SI1, something AGS0, something basic like this or this, or something wicked (price is $6660) like this. Have fun with the remainder for the ring. Is there a big difference between a cut that''s "ideal" and a cut that is H&A?

I found a 1.22ct that has these specs:

cut: ideal
color: G
Clarity: VS1
Depth: 62%
Table: 52%
Measusrements: 6.84x6.91x4.29

for roughly $6K. Good deal?

you have 7,000 to spend on just the diamond or the setting as well?
I would try to keep in mind that settings cost money too, really pretty or custom made ones are 1-2k. :)

For both the stone and ring, I can be a bit flexible. I'd like to keep the whole package under $8500. My gf also mentioned a pave ring. I like the "Tiffany-style" myself.
 
You DO have to pay tax.
You have to list it at then end of the year when you do your taxes.

That's the law.
Otherwise you are committing a crime.

So far, good news. Solid dealer, GIA is good, and will provide useful angle info. Include the link here, or look harder...often/usually the cert is on the website, and you can read it from the cert. But, since that info is so important, if you can''t get it, move on. But, probably if it is not posted on the site, BN can get it for you. Let us know.

Also, important, variability in pricing is significant between H & G, and VS2 & SI1. Will this be a surprise, or is your gf in on it. If the latter, you may want to know which of these characteristics specifically is more important to her (by doing some local shopping)...if you''re drawn to a somewhat larger size.

I know you said you like HVS2 or better but since you are on a limited budget, I am throwing this in for you to consider. Goto to a local store and ask to see a I next to H color. If she is ok with that she will love the extra spread.
