Looking for some advice, I am getting closer to buying an e-ring. I have been looking at round brilliant stones here in chicago. I''ve been looking at 1 - 1.2 ct, vs2-si1, g color, stones and was thinking of having it set in a 6 prong platinum setting. Assuming the depth and table %s are in a good range, will this size of a diamond look good in six prong setting, or will the setting dwarf the stone?

Hopefully someone out there has a similar ring or had to make that decision at some point to help out. I just want it to look great for my g/f. Also, I''m surprising her with the whole thing as we have never shopped for this together and I have not asked her preference.

Thanks in advance for your help, I have found this discussion board extremely helpful so far!

~~I think any RB will look good in a six prong setting!! It''s the iconic, classic style for e-rings!!!

Hi redhawk, I have a 1.23 diamond set in a classic 6 prong setting and I love it. I don''t think the 6 prongs is overpowering at all. This setting actually makes the diamond stand out, which I love.

I''m having trouble attaching a picture but you can see many pics here.

I just got my 1.06/I/SI2 in a 6 prong temporary setting and it looks BIG (as compared to others in my area). My table is 54% an depth is 62%. I''m in your boat with the ring setting preference... I know that she doesn''t want this setting, but we are going to shop together for it once she gets the temporary setting. I wish I could do it differently, but money and timing did not work out.

I love the 6 prong for ANY size stone!!!!

Yours should look just "right" in 6 prongs!!! that''s a nice size you are considering..you''ll have a really classic looking ring!!

Thanks for the input everyone, I am really excited about getting the ring now, I just have to settle on the right diamond. I have another session tonight to look through some stones. Another question I had was how long do you think it takes once I pick out the right diamond and setting for the jeweler to set it and size the ring. I am planning on asking her in just over two weeks from now?

I had a 0.73 ct in a 6 prong setting and it didn't overwhelm the stone.

And as far as how long it takes....shouldn't take long but it depends COMPLETELY on the jeweler as far as exact time.

I suggest you contact your jeweler to find out how long it takes them. However, if you pick out the diamond soon I think 2 weeks should be enough time.
