I am planning to get a five-stone ring. I wish to have the option of wearing it with my 3-stone ering (stacked) or alone on my left hand, ring finger. My 5-stone ring has 0.40 ct diamonds (approximately 2 cttw). Wonder about the proportion aspect when stacking it with my 3-stone ring and a spacer ring in between? The question is, does it look good with my 3-stone ring (worn together on my left hand, ring finger) or is it too big and thus is best to wear it alone as a left hand ring? The answer will affect the ring sizing, because my fingers vary in size.

I have seen one photo (see attachment from next post) from a PS member with a 5-stone ring that appears to be be about 2-cttw size (not 100% sure). Hope she does not mind my posting her photo here. If the diamonds in her 5-stone rings are indeed 0.4 ct each, I guess mine will look good as a left hand ring, worn either alone (for casual times) or stacked with my 3-stone ring (for occasions that need more bling).

Please take the poll and let me know. Thanks.

Still have trouble adding the poll question. Anyway, here is the photo.

Thanks, EHR2009.

The rings in the photo belongs to lovely mrsv. I just did a search and found her original thread. I chose her photo because we have very similar ring size and ring style. Her ring size is 6, and mine is 5.75 (my ering is size 6). We both have a round center with pear sides. Her center stone is 2.24 ct, and mine is 2.383. Her five-stone ring turns out to be 1.68 cttw, and mine will be 2 cttw. Wonder if I can pull off wear my rings the same way and still look as nice (in terms of proprtion)?

It all depends on how much room you've got before the knuckle. 2 ctw is a LOT of ring- I couldn't wear it and an e-ring together, but I have small (read: short) fingers.

Hers is actually closer to 1.5 ctw, if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can find the link.

ETA: Here it is. 1.68 ctw: Five Stone Ring- 1.68 ctw

Thanks EBree, for the link and comments. I do not know if I have enough room for the stack either. Here is a photo of me wearing my 3-stone ring. Do you think there is room for the 5-stone?

First of all your 3 stone ring is absolutely gorgeous! IMHO I feel like the 5 stone ring could take away from your beautiful ering if worn together. A 2 cttw 5 stone ring would definitely look substantial and lovely on its own on your left hand ring finger. Ultimately though it''s your opinion that counts - perhaps your jeweler has a 5 stone ring you could try on with your ering to see if you like the look? Good luck and let us know what you decide!

You have a very good point. I plan to wear the 5-stone ring by itself most of the time. As I am greedy, I want something that looks substantial, so the 0.40 carat diamonds fit the bill. I just want the flexibility to pair the 5-stone ring with my 3-stone ring for some rare occasion when I need the extra bling. If the proportion looks similar to mrsv''s, then the stacked combination will be perfect (although I do agree with you about the 5-stone being a bit distractive). If, however, the combination is more excessive, then I have to rethink about the purchase of a 5-stone ring.

My local jewlers do not have 5-stone rings with diamonds larger than 1.25 cttw. I checked out the size of their 0.30-ct ear ring studs (0.60 cttw), and am not carzy about the small size. I can consider next size diamonds like 0.35 each, but I am not sure they are big enough to make my heart leap. I know, I am too greedy.

Now, I am at a loss. Don''t know if I should get a 5-stone ring.

I dunno... I love both rings separately, but together, I just think the individual beauty and detail of each ring is kinda *lost*. It''s definitely ALOTTABLING, though!!!

OMG! Your 3 stone is absolutely gorgeous!
I would wear them on separate hands so that they could shine on their own. I wish I had your debate!

Based on the feedback, wearing both rings stacked together is not an option, if the diamonds are as large as 0.4 ct each. What about decreasing the size of the daimonds to, say 0.35-0.36 ct each? The resulting geometry will look closer to mrsv''s. What do you think?

I think mrsv took this picture of the rings together but I don't think she wears them this way. She just wears her ering and platinum band together.

I have a 2.22 center stone with .33 (each) round sidestones. I have a 2 ct. five stone ring. I do not nor did I ever intend to wear them together. It is just too much and you lose the beauty of each ring when worn together IMO. I wear the five stone on my right hand as it was a 25/30 year (there was an upgrade) and my three stone and the new Bezet ring on my left.

Having them all together is a lot of bling for sure and it might be the look you are going for. For me personally, it's just too blingy all together and looks like a big blur!

I have a five stone ( 1 ct ) band that I wear with a spacer band with my e-ring, My stone is a 2.57 round, but with no side stones. I alternate that with a 10 pt stone eternity band.

Thank you very much for your input. You have shown me the best combination for the stacked ring ensemble to work properly. You have the right combination to allow you to wear your 5-stone ring stacked together with your e-ring. First, the five stones are smaller, being 1 cttw (i.e., perfect proportion). Second, your ering does not have any sidestones, so the combination is elegantly simple and not too flashy. I guess I have to wear my 5-stone ring as a stand alone ring. The only question left is whether it be a right hand ring or left hand ring. That''s all.

I love your three stone, and personally would love to wear them on separate hands. Thats a whole lotta Blinding Bling you got there

congrats on such a beautiful three stone and early congrats on gettig a five stone

I agree that such a large tcw ring would distract us from viewing your ering. And your ering is just LOVELY and doesn''t deserve to be fighting for attention.

I appreciate you taking the time to give me inputs. Looks like we have very similar size rings, both e-rings and 5-stone rings. What a coincidence!

I shall wear my 5-stone ring as a stand-alone ring like you. The only difference is that my right finger is not as nice as yours. Perhaps I have used my right hand for too many years. The knuckle (about size 6.25) on my right hand finger is much larger than the bottom part (about size 5.75). As a result, my ring will spin. I do not like going through the trouble of getting sizing beads, and I prefer to wear my ring on my left hand. Therefore, my 5-stone will be sized for my left hand, ring finger only. Consequently, there will be no problem of "too blingy".

Your rings are gorgeous but I think I would wear them separately because your 3 stone ring is so stunning by itself.

I think the 5 stone is a good idea especially if you plan on wearing as a RHR mostly and with your ering only on special
blingout occasions. I would get as thin as you can for a spacer though if you are planning to do one.

Edit - your ering is gorgeous!

I''d keep them separate...each can shine in it''s own right that way!

I like them together, and in situations where it''s too much you can switch hands for the 5-stone. I think it''s a knockout together!!
