I wear a 6.5 and after scrutinizing all the lovely pics here for my future reference, I think you will need .25 to .3 ct stones in a shared prong setting, for 1.25 to 1.5 ctw in the whole ring. If its bar set you may be able to get away with 1 ctw to 1.25 ctw.

I think an impressive 5-stone band is a lovely ring to wear and I love love love the profile of the some of these rings where you can see the stones so well. I would really encourage you to go that route (rather than a 7-stone band) if you can afford it.

I myself would have been very happy with a 5-stone or a shared prong eternity engagement ring if budget restrictions were a factor. HOWEVER it is a personal preference - one of my friends would clearly prefer her bf spend his limited $$ on a 0.5 ct solitaire - she prefers a traditional look even with a smaller center stone.

Like any gift, a thoughtful gift giver should take some care into getting something that suites that tastes and preferences of the receiver. If the OP has not consulted with his gf on her e-ring preferences, and does not plan to do so to preserve the "surprise" element, he should carefully think about whether SHE would want a 5-stone engagement ring or is a more traditional gal. Obviously he knows her and we do not, but we can just remind him to procede cautiously IF she''s not already aware of his plan.

Good luck.

Well let''s just hope that she has some idea and is good with it, or there''s a great return policy if she doesn''t.

Jstarfireb- I get what you''re saying about the solitare but some women, love the look of a 5-stone or eternity band instead of single larger stone. It''s not common, but who cares. To me it says the person''s sure enough about themselves that they don''t need to go with the flow and be traditional.

I''m lucky enough to have both, but find that I wear my 5-stone with my wedding band more so than my e-ring. Hopefully Gemnewbs girlfriend will appreciate how distinct it is and love it.

Agree 100%; I just think he should make sure she''s one of those women before he buys!
