So here's my so-called "dilemma":

I'm upgrading my 1.218ct F Si1 "blue" with BGD. Last night I was so SURE about getting another pair of "blues" (J and/ or K with SBF) to make into studs. My intention is to add pear drops to them later (permanent, not jackets). I used to have such earrings but upgraded them and have been thinking about such earrings for a long time now. I really really miss the look. Added to that is now I have a hairstyle that "hides" my BGD 4.6ctw studs and I think adding drops to earrings would help bring them out and make them more noticeable.

On the other hand, I've been coveting a 5-stone RHR for soooooo long now too. I see so many beautiful ones on PS so that obviously has fuelled my desire! I don't really have a white diamond RHR. I have my new VC ring but it's got a yellow diamond centre and it's set a little high for my own taste; and since I'm such a klutz I tend to hit it against things. So far, the ring is still intact but I've now switched it to my LH for fear of damaging it. The other thing in favour of this 5-stone RHR is that it'd be made up of E-F colour diamonds, since they are smaller and thus less expensive.

Fwiw, I personally prefer E-F diamonds for *me*, since I'm very colour sensitive and I prefer the look of whiter diamonds. But at the same time, I am also colour-tolerant and just luuuurrrve the blue fluor. Plus, these J/K stones would be in earrings and would face up very white, I'm sure.

Both options cost about the same amount of money to upgrade.

So WWYD, PS'ers?

Hi, Phoenix! :wavey: I am up waaaay too late but glad I caught your thread before going to bed! I just don't think you'd wear the 1+ ct. studs until you added the drops since you have the 2+ ct. each studs you can wear anytime, so I vote for the 5 stone ring!

I don't know if you saw this or if butterfly was interested in it, but here is a great deal on a really nice and blingy 5 stone ring:

http://diamondbistro.com/category/201/Bands/listings/24875/Sasha-Primak-5-Stone-Trellis-Ring-256-cttw.html

So if you did something like this, then maybe you could do your BG trades toward the pear earrings.

OMG, DS, you're KILLING me!! in a good way of course, lol! :wink2:

Ooooohhh, I LOVE the ring, man I seriously LOVE that ring! I wish I didn't have over $9k tied up in the 1.218ct, otherwise I'd literally JUMP on that ring in a heartbeat!! Alas, I can't spend another $11k (what with the PP watch and the new VC ring), DH would kill me!! :nono:

I don't think BGD is too keen on sourcing stones from virtual inventory. Also, any such stones wouldn't be upgradeable with them and you know how decisive I am (NOT, lol)!

I see I'm not the only one lusting after this ring!   You know my vote...... 5 stone all the way! :naughty:

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

I vote 5 stone too! And just start pulling your hair back so that your gorgeous 4+ carat studs can be seen in all of their glory, lol!

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

I vote 5 stone ring, too! How about a graduated 5 stone ring similar to Yssie's/Firestar's?

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

Definitely a five stone ring - absolutely!

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

5 stone!

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

Just to be the Devil's advocate  I'm going to vote for the pear drops. You have studs you love but can't be seen due to your hairstyle. AND... you do have an AWESOME collection of gorgeous rings ... so... if you do the pear drops, you'll enjoy wearing your studs that much more. Then... once they are purchased, you can rationalize w DH how much you STILL long for the 5 stone RHR.

 It's just a sneaky manipulation manoeuvre!! HAHAHAHA!!

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

Phoenix, I am 100% behind the idea of upgradeable stones, and since you have stones that you can trade in, that makes the most sense for sure! That ring I posted is going to be a nice deal for somebody, though! I can't wear stones that big because it is out of proportion to my other jewelry, but you could certainly get .40-.50 stones for yours.

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

I voted for the ring. That way you can see it and enjoy it. Earrings are only enjoyed by other people! If your hair is getting in the way of your diamond studs put it up in a ponytail or cut it!

I actually LOVE the idea but I think DH would really kill me. I think I'll have to make that a longer term project.

Happy to enable!!! Just like oxygen, diamonds can become necessary for life!! :Up_to_something: :Up_to_something:

Excited to see your new RHR soon! (ans them the studs with drops shortly after! ROFL)

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

Cute hairdo! I've been debating about doing a chop like that -- tired of waiting for my hair to grow to "long" and sick of being in the middle.

On the bling issue .... neither?!! I feel a bit like I can tell when you're really excited about something & you just don't sound that enthused about either of these projects. Just, perhaps, like you'd *like* a new project. Could be me projecting though because *I* wouldn't be excited about either of those items really.

I forget -- do you already have diamond hoops? I think you do -- those would look so cute with your bob! If not: get some! :naughty:

Thank you, deco! :))

Hmm...could this apparent lack of excitement be contributed to the fact that I HAVE to upgrade this diamond (tried to sell it and couldn't ::) ) and it's not a new project?! ...hmm...dunno actually...you could be onto something here.

However, I've been thinking about a 5-stone RHR for a while now. I've already instructed Lesley, and should be receiving it by the end of next week or early week after.

I guess YAY :appl: is appropriate, heh?! :wink2:

Thank you, H.O.T. I was initially thinking of the U-band but it seems that it's not sufficiently low for me. So now I've selected the Trellis band II: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/wedding-and-anniversary-bands/eternity-bands/five-stone-trellis-band-ii-18k-white-gold-5400w18

It seems very graceful with flowing curvy lines and the stones seem to sit super-low. I also like that it's thinner - and have requested that the shank and prongs be made as thin/ narrow as possible, without the integrity of the structure being compromised.

Re: 5-stone E-F RHR or pair of J-K studs (add pear drops lat

So these are my stones and they will be set in this particular order:

0.530ct E Si1 - 0.540ct F VS2 - 0.562ct F VS2 - 0.547ct F VS2 - 0.531ct E Si1

Measurements:

5.19-5.20 5.24-5.26 5.27-5.30 5.26-5.28 5.21-5.23

This will be one heck of a ring!! :naughty:

Yes, it will! You are going to have a wider spread of stones than your ring size again, though. They really need to curve those stones since they'll go around the side of your finger a little.

Look again at how this one with .5 ct stones works on a size 6 finger:

http://diamondbistro.com/category/201/Bands/listings/24875/Sasha-Primak-5-Stone-Trellis-Ring-256-cttw.html

It's ok, DS. I was and am aware of this. They should curve those stones. If it's really uncomfortable, I can ask my local jeweller to re-size it into a middle-finger ring.

Thanks for looking out for me. You're very sweet.:))

ETA: I used to have a 5-stone ring made up of 25 pts (I initially thought they were 21-23 pts, but I was wrong). And it looked sooo small on my hand, I ended up turning it into a full eternity and it's still too small. Pls don't stone me, PS'ers. I'm such a size wh***!! :naughty:

Phoenix that is going to be one dazzling five stone ring! I received a five stone right hand ring this year and I absolutely love it.

I hate to be an enabler but....I think you should consider going full eternity on this piece. I think you will absolutely love it for a period of time and then you will see it turn and the metal will drive you crazy and no doubt it will be reset into an eternity shortly thereafter. I have an eternity with .55 stones and I cannot tell you how much I love this ring. The fact that it is uternity set so all of the diamond is showing, and that there is so little metal makes this ring incredibly blingy.

Please don't slay me....just thinking down the road for you ;)

I SWEAR I was actually thinking of you and your beautiful MAGNIFICENT MEGA full eternity when I wrote my post above. Talk about INCREDIBLE!!

I don't doubt that I may very well end up with a full eternity eventually. That'd be absolutely blingtastic!! :appl: That may not happen for a while though. 2011 has been a very blingy year for me - I think I'd better calm down for a while! :saint:

Tell me though, if you'd like to share, where did you get your uternity set? That setting is really gorgeous, very very blingy as you said cos all the diamonds are showing, and it appears that the stones sit very low. I also love that the setting is very open and thus appears very easy to clean.

Thanks for enabling. I *always* welcome enabling - any time! :naughty: :))
