Hello all,
I've been reading and oohing and aahing here for a while now. I wish I knew about this website when I first learned about the 4Cs. I know the basics, but I can get so much more in-depth knowledge here.
Long story short, I inherited my grandma's 5-stone ring from my mom. My mom doesn't wear jewelry so she gave it to me ahead of time. The ring is set like a normal engagement-style 5-stone ring with 12-pt diamonds, 3mm (according to my jeweler). It's just 5 in a row. I can't wear it because it's way too big, and because it looks like an engagement ring although it wasn't. Mom has given me permission to reset it so I can wear and enjoy it.
My jeweler gave us a couple of design ideas which my husband isn't too keen on. They look like wedding bands or engagement ring so I get it. I already have those so this new piece shouldn't compete. The idea is to reuse the stones, and also the gold. It's yellow, but I can always have the jeweler rhodium-plate it. The stones are very sparkly and look eye-clean to me. But the jeweler can't grade/appraise it in the setting. With all the rings I've seen here, I haven't come across a design for 5-stones that look like an antique or heirloom piece. Another problem is my finger size. I wear a 3.75 on my right ring finger. The diamonds in a row are wider than my finger.
I'd like to pass it on someday to my children. Does anyone have a piece they can share or any ideas to help me design a new piece? I'm a pretty simple person. My engagement ring is a round brilliant solitaire and my wedding band is just a plain wedding band.
Thank you!!!!!
