Hey all, I'm hoping you can help.

I'm looking to get a 5 stone and am stuck on two points:

1. The style (low shared-prong like Bliss or U-prong like the Nightingale or Skye)
2. smaller ACA's or BGS, or larger excellent cut, uncerted

With my budget for this project, I can go two ways on this: get 35-40 pointers, either ACA or BGS, or get 50-55 pointers with Yekutiel at IDJ (uncerted, excellent cut)

What to do??? My ring size is 7.5, this ring will be a stand alone ring, and I want PRESENCE. I tried on a band with 40 pointers in a Memoire-style band and it looked a tad small on my hand...but it was an HOF and THAT is the quality I'm looking for...

Can that be achieved with IDJ uncerted stones? I don't need perfect arrows under the loupe, but I do need them to be stunners at normal viewing distance. Will their uncerted excellent cuts do the trick?

And the other dilemma is the setting--I plan to wear this ring daily, and I need it to be comfortable. For those of you with a larger u-prong, can you happily wear it all day? I LOVE the look of this style, but don't have an opportunity to try it on in person. Thoughts?

Thanks so much!!

With a 5 stone, I prefer a u-prong or trellis setting.

As far as diamond size, I feel your pain, I am an 8.25 :errrr: I have purchased with ID Jewelry, I got an amazing eternity with 20 pointers. I let them know that I wanted pricescope quality, ex-ideal cut and all eye clean. I am 100% satisfied. So for me personally, I would go for finger coverage and get the 50-55 with ID Jewelry.

I'd try on one with .50's if at all possible because the total width of the stones is going to have an effect on comfort. I think .50 stones and up probably will be certified if they are excellent cuts. So I would expect that in stones that size.

Thanks for giving me hope! I was REALLY hoping there would be folks out there who would say that IDJ's uncerted excellent cuts are going to work for me so I can go bigger! :naughty:

I think I keep dwelling on this because if it came down to it, I'd rather go smaller and have really beautiful stones, than bigger and just pretty ones--I want to be sure their uncerted excellents WILL be beautiful, and that's why I appreciate your input.

Thanks again!

Hi Phoenixdarling,

About a year ago I was in the market for an eternity band (40 pointers).
After reading all the great reviews here about IDJ's eternity bands, I decided to order one.
Compared to all the other beauties that I had seen here, mine was the ugly duckling (stones and setting).... ;( and I returned it.
Long story short, my experience with IDJ was not positive and I chose to take my business elsewhere.
I purchased my band from BG.
Even though I read PS posts on a daily base I do not post ( I still consider myself a student) but I did post some pics of my band ( AGS 0/ 0.41/0.42 E/F-VS1, ring size 6.5).
Having been able to experience both ends of the spectrum, I would definitely recommend BGS!!!!
I understand that you are looking for a 5-stone band and the IMPACT IS definitely there.....
I opted for a closed basket setting set as low as possible.
Hope this helps.

OH NO!! I'm so sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you with IDJ (but am very glad that BGD came through!) Oh boy, this is exactly what I've been afraid about...I wonder if I should just take a chance with them and return it if it isn't gorgeous, or just stick with BGD to begin with... Until I read your response, I was leaning towards IDJ, but now I'm worried again. Goodness gracious, the dwelling...

Unfortunately, I live in a rural area where the largest 5 stone I could find was with 40 pointers. Hmmm, do you think it's possible that it looked small on my hand because the setting was very low? Would 40 pointers in a u-prong LOOK bigger??

Thanks for your help!

Ahhhh, I say go for the .50s because you may get shrinkage later! :naughty: I love love love u-prong settings on PS and still adore them but I couldn't do it once I tried it on my finger. It didn't look good on me and didn't feel comfortable. I have an eternity with about 40 pointers and it is super comfortable to the point where I can't even tell it is on. And I have skinny fingers (just under 4.5!) so it's not like I have nice cushion around the ring, either. I do wear my eternity band loose because I hate the feeling of tight bands, so maybe that also helps? Get the .50s!!!!!!!!! You said you wanted Presence! :naughty:  :appl:

Oh! And I have an eternity from IDJ - love love love. It has 5 certed GIA stones and the rest are ideal cut non-certed F VS stones to match - I cannot tell which are which!

Well, you are getting a lot of information from people who have bought the rings! It sounds like maybe they could get you the larger uncerted stones!

The setting issue is a dilemma. I do not like the end stones to stick out wider than the finger. So the setting is important to me, too. I really love the BG Sally setting, but the only ones I have seen on here had around 30 point stones. But it is possible that the higher setting would have a different appearance. I really agree with you that it is SUPER HARD making decisions about expensive jewelry when you can't try it on before ordering!!!

Bliss, your 5 stone is what prompted me to go after one in the first place! :twirl: It is SO beautiful and SO stunning on your (very little!) hand!! I knew that you had it made into an eternity later, but I DIDN'T know that the other stones are IDJ's uncerted ideal/excellent ones--if you can't see a difference, then that's good enough for me!! :appl:

I imagine that some people have had less than perfect experiences with them, but I'm hoping that it's a rare thing? I've spoken with Yekutiel a few times and I think he's terrifically nice and there have been SO, SO many good reviews--perhaps what I can do for peace of mind is to ask him to send ASET/Idealscope images of the stones he picks out for me before the ring is made--does he do that??

it's definitely worth a shot to make an offer to JbEG for that stunning band

Do make sure that ID knows you are a pricescoper, from reading other threads I think that helps :twirl:
