Hey all! I sat with a dealer in LA''s diamond district while he went on Rap.net looking for the stone I''m interested in: Cushion Cut, 1.50 ct, D, VS2/SI1, GIA cert. We found a dealer in NY selling this stone at 45% off RAP. Even with my dealer''s 12% markup, this seems like a good deal at $8,500.
My questions are 1) Are high Rap reductions generally due to lower polish+finish grades, and how much of a difference does this make, both in beauty and price? 2) Should I hire an independent appraiser to accompany me to the shop when the stone arrives?
