I was floored that in 2021 there was only one death in Japan caused by a gun.
In 2021 America 45,000 deaths were caused by these objects, which Japan has proven to be unnecessary.

45,000 to 1? :oops2::oops2::oops2:

WTF?

"Japan has some of the lowest rates of gun ownership and gun violence in the world, with only one person killed by gun violence in 2021, according to the country's National Police Agency.

The Gun Violence Archive recorded over 45,000 firearm deaths in the U.S. that same year."

‘Murica.

Honestly, given how far CWD has spread - tough to even make a hunting argument. No one I know is butchering together or sharing meat any more! Even in states it hasn’t reached!

Do you want to know what else they do not have?
Obesity!
Because they have a state-prescribed legal limit waistline. Isn't that cool?

There are other countries where you cannot easily own a gun that you could have used to prove your point but these wouldn't be zero gun related deaths countries either. FYI I'm not pro guns.

Btw, you should probably calculate gun deaths per capita not per country, Japan is tiny compared to the US.

My point is Japan is very different in so many ways, it's an unfair comparison.

How could I be so stoppid?
Excellent points.
You're right, of course.

45,000 Americans killed by guns is just dandy, and nothing can be done.

Of course something can be done, (try to) restrict who can own one :cool2:

If it’s 45,000 to 1 then per capita it’s about 15,000 to 1. Still a big number.

Actually Japan doesn’t have an obesity problem because Japan has a very homogenous population, and people of that ancestry typically have slender builds, and food norms favour low-fat diets, and there’s no culture of overeating as there is here in the US.

The state guidelines have nothing to do with the fact that Japan doesn’t have an obesity problem. In fact everything I’ve ever read about it indicates that most experts feel it’s far too strict and will create far more health problems than it might solve.

No, my point was Japan is culturally too different to compare anyway. You said it yourself in the lines above.

Guns are part of USA culture if you think about it. It would be extremely difficult to change that all at once, it might take a generation or two.
Anyway this is just my opinion, it's just another opinion.

Agree, for some parts of the country it truly part of the culture, but not all. I think it's more regional actually. None of my friends say that they have guns, of any kind. Not for self protection, not for hunting, etc. Maybe they do, but if so, they don't talk about it and I doubt any of them would say someone needs an automatic rifle for anything. So the argument, at least, goes back to why any civilian would need an automatic rifle for anything and why they can't be banned. We can't even seem to get age limits and recently, most of these mass shooters have been young people.

I’m pro gun. For hunters and farmers and law enforcement and military, to do their jobs and/or provide sustenance with.

I’m also pro no permits for hobbyists (shooting is NOT a sport. For god’s sake just go find a new pastime.), no conceal carry, increasing the age limit, thorough background checks, mental health exclusions, initial and ongoing training, enforced gun registration and tracking, and requirements for storage with confiscation+fines+imprisonment for failing to adhere to said storage requirements. Weapons whose sole raison d’etre is to kill SHOULD be hard to get and hard to keep.

I feel like all of that can be summed up by I’m pro not being stupid about guns.

Totally agree!
I guess one of the reasons they're not banned is because making them is big business.

Edit:
I just got an email to sign a petition to ban machetes being sold online. They are a common theme in London apparently and many people have suffered horrific injuries and have been mugged by criminals using machetes.
Unbelievable...

Well, unfortunately, where there is a will to kill, there always seems to be a way. And someone wielding a machete can certainly do a lot of damage. Someone firing an automatic rifle can probably do more in a shorter period of time, but let's not make things easy for these nuts.
